How many strands should I use to cover?

Post by matilda314 »

I am starting a new project, "Witchy-Washy" by Raise the Roof. It does not specify on the chart how many strands to use. However, due to poor eyesight, I am switching it to 14 count Aida from the listed 32 count linen. I am using Gentle Art Sampler threads (for the first time...YAY!!! Something new!!). There is both 1 and 2 strand backstitching listed. I would normally use 2 strands of DMC floss. Would it be the same for Sampler Threads?
Thanks!!!

I haven't worked with Gentle Art Sampler threads yet, but I would imagine it would be the same number of strands. They don't look thicker to me. I'm sure someone will have know the answer. I love this pattern so I hope you post pics! Good luck.

I've used Sampler Threads before, they are the same thickness as DMC. They are much softer than DMC though so very nice to stitch with
You should be fine using 2 strands, but if you are unsure you could always do some test stitches on a scrap piece of fabric to make sure you are getting the coverage you want.

I have just started on their Scrub A Dub Dub clothesline
On my chart, they say to use 2 strands. Its written at the top of the box that has the instructions for the backstitching. Its kind of in a goofy spot.. easily overlooked.

when I increase the fabric size, I use 3 strands.

32 count would be equal to 16 count so I would go up to 3 strands. but thats just me, I think it looks better.

This project was supposed to be on 16 count, i did 14 count and 3 strands..
