Hi Angela, Just start a new thread in the Stitch-A-Long section with scans or photos of your current project, we then cheer you on

It's a wonderful thing to do Angela, I'd never managed to complete anything other than small projects before, but I started a SAL and since then I've finished a few!
It's so encouraging.

On other sites, SALs are exactly that: several members stitching the same thing, comparing colours, threads, fabrics and so on. Here, it has always been a fan-club sort of thing: encouragement to help get through difficult patches in a design, or just to have your head patted (which everyone needs from time to time!).

Never tell your problems to anyone...20% don't care and the other 80% are glad you have them.

Hello Angela,

An S A L stands for Stitch-A-Long. In the true sense of the meaning it would be if everyone bought or found(freebie) pattern and every one stitched it at the same time. Using there own personal preference in fabric, floss colors and so on. Then at regular times they all post a picture of how there work is going and compare how the differences effect the outcome of the pattern. Many designers do this to get people interested in there designs.

However on this site we have done it in a different way. I the Section "Stich-A-Long" each of us is posting a picture of our current WIP(Work in Progress) and as we go along we will post pictures to show everyone how it is progressing. This way we can cry if we have to :ribbit: ( term we use when we have to remove stitches when we have counted wrong...rip it rip it rip it sorta the same sound a frog makes) and brag when we have done a good piece of work. Celebrate when we have completed our project.

When I first got here the SAL forum was already all (or almost all) WIPs, so I never even new what the original meaning of a Stitch-A-Long was until this thread!

Don't kow about an actual SAL, but posting your WIP is great -- you get encouragement when you feel like kicking the thing in the corner because you have to unpick a square inch, you get feedback from people who stitch themselves and therefore know how much effort you're putting into it, and sharing how a project is developing is simply great fun :-)!

yeah sal usually means we all do the same thing at the same time....
but most places have a more "loose" sal as we all stitch our own different projects at the same time and post progress pictures..prod each other to get stitching done..etc.

I could do with a prod -- once again I've got far too many things on the go at once :-(
