Feeling a little strange

Post by minij »

My youngest son went off to USA yesterday for 7 months to work as a football coach, he has been several times before for holidays and also last year for 6 weeks working for the same company but this time it seems such a long while. I know he will have a fantastic time as he did last year and just loves USA and he did text me last night to let us know he has arrived OK.

He will gain a great deal of experience and thoroughly enjoy his time there.

Know what you mean though, it is very difficult to see your children as adults when they go off on their adventures, to us they will always be our little ones that we have to protect. We know that they are grown up and perfectly able to take care of themselves but it is still a very strange feeling knowing that we are not going to be there for them and also that they do not need us for protection any more.

I'm sure he will have a great time. i don't have any kids myself but I can imagine it must feel strange seeing them growing up.

I just got back from being away in France for 5 months and was really worried about missing my Mum (and her missing me) but it went so quickly and it was such a great experience. I'm sure he'll have a fabulous time and it's so great when you get to see each other again! Will you get a chance to visit once at all?

It must feel very strange. It sounds like he has got a wonderful opportunity and the time will fly by (I can't believe we have been in France for nearly 5 years now) - he'll be back before you know it.

Buffylove - no we won't be visiting as apart from the first 6 weeks he will be staying with different families in LA but only for a week and he won't know until the Friday of each week where he is moving onto.

maemae0410 He has flown to LA and is being met by the regional director today and then on Saturday he is flying to Uttah and staying with a family for 6 weeks in the Salt Lake City area, after that he flies back to LA and will then be staying with many different families doing the summer soccer camps (this was what he did last year for 6 weeks but he came home to be bestman at his brothers wedding). In September and October he will still be in LA but I think will spend the time with 1 or 2 families but not really sure.

It's great the they have the opportunity to do such exciting things and last year he had a great time with the different families and is still in contact with them, in fact he is hoping to meet up with some of them again this year if possible

It sounds like a wonderful opportunity. You'll have to let us know how he's doing from time to time

I know how you feel, my daughter lived in the UK for half a year, it was terribly hard for me. But time flies, you will see.
