I fell INSTANTLY in love with those as soon as I saw your post! I'm going to keep my eye out for some, they are just lovely. I find the old floral designs like that to be just beautiful, seeing the drawings in books and stitched designs really shows how flowers and plants have inspired people for centuries. Thanks for sharing! :)

Well, its been finished for a while, but it took until this morning for me to realise that I can photograph this on the floor!

Image

I am just trying to decide whether to fill the empty spaces on the top flower with either lilac crosses, or lilac french knots, or just leave it.

Image

I was thinking a very pale lilac, I'd have to seem them in the hank, but was thinking DMC 3609 or 554, or 225.

Ketta, I'm going to sell the kit again

And I have ordered the silk for the angelica (which I notice is actually called hogweed in the title)

Colours a bit washed out in the photo, in reality they are more intense.

Image

I have also ordered some near white silk for another chart I have found at the bottom of the drawer. I'm going to stitch it on red.

white on red sounds good and stunning :-)!

I like the idea of french knots -- as your colours are relatively subdued, how about 3042 or 3041? (Some of my favourites :-))

I'm just showing off about the French Knots - I am of the generation that were made to do them endlessly in school, so can never understand why folk have trouble with them!

3042 looks nice - needs to be very subtle both because the flowers themselves are very pale, and because I don't want them to stand out - just to give a hint of the natural colour.

I can contemplate stitching on red now I have my wonderful light/magnifier - the Purelite 3 in 1. But am concerned that the angelica won't fit onto my lap frame. [There is a Lowery stand on ebay - now can I justify it?]

The Teasel is absolutely gorgeous :)

Love the colours you've chosen for the Angelica, and I think you 'deserve' that Lowery stand

Lovely work! I think the french knots would give a pleasant 3-d effect

Very pretty. I would maybe use DMC 211 or 210 they are very subtle purples.

very very pretty. I am one of those who also likes French knots (I often use them instead of beads in a pattern because I think they are easier and I hate sewing beads) because of that 3D effect they can have.

I think white on red will also be stunning and can't wait to see it.

Taking photos on the floor is a good idea. I have only posted once because I didn't like the way my afghan looked laying on the bed. I think I will try the floor and be brave and post again soon to get ya'lls feedback.

Anyway, I love the delicacy of this piece. Good work!

Thank you Carole, as you said so, I decided to go for it. I was helped by the fact that I won £50 in a rolling lottery I'd forgotten I was paying into, and the seller agreed to sell for £45 (plus £8 postage).

So I will soon be the proud owner of a stainless Lowery stand, with corner clamp. Not sure what that actually means, but no doubt it will be obvious when it arrives!

And I think I have decided on French knots, on the grounds that I can take them out if I don't like them! Now to choose a colour.
