Funny isn't it!

Anyone else notice that some colours (of any make) usually the darker ones like black and darker browns, seem thinner than other lighter colours?

I have noticed that the black floss is always thinner in spots all along the strand. I wonder why that is?

This has been discussed on the forum and it was indicated that it is because of teh dyeing process. Not sure were the discussion went but it is here someplace.

I learned cross stitching from my mother, who then passed me all her threads when she stopped cross stitching (she moved on to patchwork and wood painting). This way when I actually got into it as a teenager my stash was Anchor, as this is what was available in Brazil (back in the 90's DMC threads there were imported and very expensive).

Over the years both became readily available and similar in price, color palette and quality. Since I did have my stash of Anchor threads I always ended up using it on my charts, buying whatever colors I was missing. I do have a few DMC and couldn't really see a difference when working with one or the other, but that was many years ago and dunno now.

But now that I am married to an airman and living in the US I see that DMC is easier found here, although it's very easy to shop for threads online, and most good online stores carry both. I have a few smaller projects I'll be using my own Anchor stash to do, but I did buy some HAED charts that when I shop to kit them up I might go DMC to build a new stash and see how it compares to my Anchor these days.

I'm DMC.. it's the only one readily available in my area... I am getting partial to specialty threads though

I prefer DMC. I'm currently doing a project which came with Anchor threads and I've never used them until this project, only DMC and I've found I've had to keep the threads super short or they knot up.

Normally I just dangle the needle on the thread to make sure it doesn't get all knotted up and that seemed to work just fine with the DMC but the Anchor seems to be a bit more stubborn. I seem to have spent most of my time dealing with pesky knots on this project! Might just be because I'm doing something wrong though.

I think the only threads I have are DMC. Once I got started that was what I used and then it seemed like the most practical way since the stash grew until I began to grow it by just getting some extra every time I needed threads until I had all of them. Now I just replace as needed. Took a long time though. I would get confused if I mixed brands. Its hard enough with patterns giving the two sets of numbers.
