I need help adding detail

Post by Vega »

I've been working on this memorial piece and realised that the roses and leaves don't have any detail. As I was stitching last night the leaves almost blend into the blue of the ribbon. I don't want to fully backstitch them, but can someone help me figure out where to add some accent points to highlight a bit of detail in them? In this pic I don't have the leaves filled in yet. I can post a better one tomorrow.

what a lovely piece!

I would think about using a darker shade of the colours you already use (green for leaves red for roses) or a greyish. I think black might be too drastic.

On the roses I would probably put some definition in between the lighter shade, and the darker red, maybe spiral it round to the centre.

Without seeing them its hard to say about the leaves, but definitely a darker shade of green around the outside

Good luck!

I think it is perfect as it is. Once the leaves are done they will stand out.

Ok, here are pics I took this morning. With the flash the leaves don't blend in as much as they do looking at it under a normal light. The picture is working against what I'm trying to explain. LOL

Here is a pic without the flash on...

I'm playing around with a photo editor to add some lines, but I'm really bad at this stuff. When I have something presentable I'd like to get some opinions on it.

I think the roses look good. :applesauce: :applesauce: maybe a little backstitching around the leaves, but I would think you would want the roses to stand out, which they do.
I love the colors.

Often if you backstitch at a colour change that will emphasize the difference. That might work to accent the leaves, and the roses if you wanted. You could do maybe a dark brown for both? or switch between a dark green and dark red?

looks great btw!
