Wow, there are loads of posts in Stitch-A-Long! I had to go back 6 pages to find this one!

Anyway here is the latest update. I've finished the tree in the background, and all the backstitch that I can do so far! Just the couching to do on his chest and sleeves. I'm leaving that till the end, in case moving the snap frame damages it.

Thanks for looking!

This design is gorgeous and your stitching is wonderful. I love the colors.

I have a question, what does it mean to "couch" stitches?

Each time I see this, I feel tempted to move mine from wish list to cart on 123 stitch. I know I'll get it soon. I just love it! Great progress! :applesauce:

I hope I can explain this!

Couching is a way of securing a thread on the surface of your stitching. You use 2 needles and threads. You start by laying the main thread where you want it to sit on the design, then bring the other needle and thread up through the fabric, over the main thread and back down again to secure the thread.

I found a video that explains it better than I can!

Looks like a fun technique! Thanks for taking the time to post the link and explain.
I think it will look great on your Samurai and I can't wait to see when you're done!

Do you mind if I have another question?
Is the couching indicated in the chart or is it something that you know will enhance the piece so you've decided to add it in? If it isn't indicated, I admire your stitching insticts!

Hi Marniecat

The couching is indicated on the chart. It is quite a complicated piece. All of the red and purple is done using blended threads, and there are something like 27 different instructions for backstitch and other speciality stitches (using different colours and number of strands), plus beads, cording, and metallic! I am thoroughly enjoying it though, I've wanted to do this one for over 10 years!
