Starting over..marker pen?
Can any one help me with grid lines.....having stitched all the grid-lines onto my fabric, stitching the grid lines with nylon thread, I found out that the company had sent me the wrong size piece of fabric! So I have to start again.....I found this to very time consuming (and boring)....would any one recommend using a fine marker eg 'Mark-be-gone' or another disappearing marker?...my design dose not cover fabric completely.
Re: Starting over..marker pen?
I use the washable pens that are specifically for use on fabric. I seldom ever do designs that cover the entire fabric and I've never had a problem with it coming out. Sometimes I just spritz it with a little water from a sprayer and it comes out. Other times I run it under the tap or swish it around in a sink with some soapy water, but it always comes out no problem with no trace of lines left behind.
Re: Starting over..marker pen?
Thats good news!.....can you recommend any pen in particular?
Re: Starting over..marker pen?
I found a washable pen at Walmart and then saw the same one at AC Moore, Mark-B-Gone is the brand and they were really inexpensive. Around $2. I tested it both before and after I did some stitching and I was amazed at how completely they washed out. I like the pen because I can grid as I go and don't have to do the whole fabric. Gridding is new to me and I will probably only use it for the large and more complicated pieces (like the HAED's) and the evenweave pieces which are harder for me to count on because of their smaller squares

Re: Starting over..marker pen?
I've seen 3 different types of markers. I've only bought one.
There is disappearing ink. I've only seen disappearing purple ink. No heat, no water, it just disappears over time. I am not sure how long it takes to fade so it may not be the best for long term projects.
There is water soluable ink. This one is typically blue. Run it under cold water and the marks wash out. This is the only type I have purchased and used. I think the one I have is manufactured by Dritz. Not sure, it doesn't say anything on the pen itself. Its a thin line, the tip looks like a gel pen. I've had fabric marked up for months and it easily washed out.
There is also heat erasable markers. These come in a rainbow of colors, a few colors are sold individually. Haven't tried these either. But the ink is supposed to disappear by using a hair dryer.

Re: Starting over..marker pen?
I have a Dritz fine point Mark-B-Gone pen, too, with the washable blue ink. It does work very well. The ink rinses right out with just a little cold water.
I will also admit to having used Crayola washable markers to grid my fabric or mark the center of my fabric. I have not had any problems with them, either. They rinse out, too, with plain water, and so far don't seem to leave a mark or stain.

Re: Starting over..marker pen?
Just a note...I always test the marker on fabric before i mark all over...even if I have used that exact marker before...just like on a corner...to make sure the fabric and marker don't act weird.
I too only use the washable pens..
the dissapearing seems like it wouldn't stay long enough
and the heat ones...I just can't get out of my head my mother saying time and time again.."heat sets stains...if you dry clothes with stains in them the stains are there for good." So something about using heat...to remove ink...seems odd. haha
