Q-snap question

I looked but couldn't figure out where this was answered so, I know that a lot of you use a fabric or something to keep the q-snaps from leaving a mark on your stitching. I think I have to order something (I cross stitch but don't sew worth diddly squat). Where do you order from? I hope the mark that was left on my LOTR will wash out. It didn't do this before and I have been very good about taking my piece out of the q-snap every night (I leave hoops in and never have had a problem). What is the cover called? q-snap cover? I need to order it today I guess. In the meantime I'm going to come up with something temporary.

whoops. I don't mean a cover to protect the rest of the fabric (Just was looking at the covers on 123 Stitch. Is there something I need to do to keep the marks off where the q snaps are on the stitching or will it just wash out??

I've never had a problem with the marks/squashed stitches coming out and plumping up after washing and ironing. I do have fabric under my clips though just to help with tension on thinner fabrics. You don't need to buy anything. One of my q snaps has fabric cut from an old t-shirt that was going to the rag pile due to holes. The other one has scrap fabric from my fabric box. I'm sure you have something at home that might work without buying something.

Thank you Busy_B. I don't need to do anything about the tension as that seems to be just perfect, but I think the idea of an old t-shirt is a good one. I have quite a few that were needing to be tossed. And its good to know that marks will wash out. I'd just as soon spend the money on stash than on something like this. And I have come to love the Q-snaps and don't plan on hoops again (Have to figure out what to do with them).

I used a paper towel under mine for my golden retriever and that seemed to work well too. Hope the marks come out easily!

Thanks, I will try that, if I can't find the right kind of material. Everything I'm looking at seems too thick or I think the color might come off which would be worse. paper towel would be just about right.

I'm sure someone on here mentioned it, that's why I tried it. I don't have the covers some others have either. and yes, much cheaper too with paper towel!

When I move my snap and it covers an area that has already been stitched, I fold over my extra fabric then put the snap on. So the top of my stitch is protected by extra fabric. I just started doing that with Christmas Ball because I was only stitching with one thread and I was trying not to get fuzzies. Although....

Although.. I have never had a problem with my stitches not bouncing back after washing and ironing.. and I leave my fabric on the frame for weeks. Because I use the fabric Q Snap cover and roll up my extra fabric underneath that cover-- its too putzy to take on and off every day. I only take it off when I move it. Its only with new clips that I notice any marks... but honest, I've never had a problem with my stitches not bouncing back and I've been using them for 5 years. If your worried about it.. wash it now and see that the clip marks wash off. (I wash my projects while I am in the middle of stitching them all the time too... as long as I haven't drawn on grid lines)

What is the cover called? q-snap cover? I need to order it today I guess. In the meantime I'm going to come up with something temporary.
The actual things that snap on? I think they call them clips. A frame is the whole 4 pieces and clips. Legs are a set of 2 with clips. Or you can just by replacement clips, sold in sets of 2.

Thanks Maggie. I am using a paper towel right now as Tiffany suggested, but am very reassured by what you said. Especially since you keep the fabric in your q snap frame. I thought about testing it even though I have some grids on it. I only am gridding a column o so at a time so it wouldn't be too hard to re do the grids. Maybe when I'm ready to rotate, I will try. If the marks don't come out, that's it. I don't think I could start over with all that black again so I'll probably just wait and be happily surprised when everything looks perfect and the end. the marks aren't really all that bad and probably wouldn't be noticed by anyone but me anyway.

You seem to be sorted now but I thought I'd mention what I've been using. I wanted to use a bit of fabric just where the clip went over any stitching in case of snags or scuffs so I cut up an old polycotton pillowcase. It's thin and there's no worries about any colour running. Plus I have plenty of it so when one bit gets a bit frayed or grubby I just cut a new bit.

thank you. That is a good idea and I have a lot of old pillow cases, which are pretty thin.

have you tried tissue paper? Not the kind you blow your nose on, the kind you put into gift bags. I use this tissue paper to avoid lines, creases, etc. I bet it would work with any thing you use to keep your work taut.

I might cut up one hubby's old undershirts (you know, white hanes, he has to use them under his formal uniform) and use it under my Qsnaps, my issue being that despite whip stitching when I pull I roll the clip to adjust tension I'm pulling the whip stitches apart (working on the edge, without too much extra fabric) and the fabric is starting to fray again. I just backstitched a double line to see if that's stronger to prevent fraying (I used fray check and it didn't do much), as I really really don't wanna risk having to start my Starry Night over on a larger piece of fabric.
