What is the best type of thread to use for lacing the back of a finished piece? I usually use masking tape but want these ones to be more permanent and better looking!
I have only normal thread and thick plaiting thread which is like waxed cotton without the wax...(used for plaiting horses manes)
Cheers

Re: Thread for lacing?
well i have used anchor perle cotton number 8 - dmc perle cotton roughly anything that is same thickness as dmc stranded cotton (not split)
its easier to pull and doesnt snap when pulling
hope that helps

Re: Thread for lacing?
My nan gave me a spool/reel of what I believe is crochet cotton (quite thick, white) for lacing. I'll try and get a pic of it soon for you but anything along those lines would work I think.

Re: Thread for lacing?
I just used regular sewing machine thread last time I laced something, I have an embroidered piece my mother finished in 1983 which also appears to have been laced with sewing machine cotton and is still doing just fine

Re: Thread for lacing?
I hate to sound dumb, but what kind of lacing do you do? and why?

Re: Thread for lacing?
Thank you very much girls
I think the plaiting thread might be a good option then, its very strong. Snapping would be very bad wouldn't it!!
Lacing is how you do the back of work when you are mounting it - place your work over the mounting board, pin it in place and then lace the back, one way then the next to hold it.

Re: Thread for lacing?
Thank you. Its been so long since I framed a piece and then I think my husband did it so I didn't pay attention. I will be back when its time for me to do it.

Re: Thread for lacing?
I have always used sewing machine thread but make sure it is cotton thread - as used for quilting as it is stronger and and is non acidic too.
