Xandra's Tree of Stitches SAL FINISHED 16/10

Post by XandraS »

I started part one of the SAL on Friday and finished it yesterday. I'm stitching on a piece of hand dyed evenweave (28 count) from Polstitches which I got in my large cuts grab bag during the New Year sale, not sure which one it is, but I think it looks like 'The Deep' but not quite.

Part one was stitched using DMC Satin S415, not sure what the rest will be stitched with yet, hopefully my Sewandso order will arrive on Tuesday and I can decide then.

Had a small visit from :ribbit: on one of the roots, but it was easy enough to unpick.

Image

By the way, I remembered why I haven't really used my DMCsatin floss stash, they are hell to stitch with, almost as bad a the metallics. They are ok if you're just doing a little, but I wouldn't want to stitch with them over a bigger area than I just did. Madeira's Decora floss is a lot easier to handle, might have to lobby Sewandso to start stocking more Madeira.

Great start! :applesauce:

It's so interesting to see another TOS being stitched up but with completely different threads and fabric....your colours make me think of maybe an autumn/winter tree, can't wait to see what it turns out like...I will be watching closely :D

I'm getting that winter vibe too with the blue fabric and white stitches. I'm really curious at your next step. Good luck with it!

:applesauce: so far so good. and thanks for the tip on the satin floss. I bought some to use on my TOS when I start and will make sure to use small strands, as I've never stitched with anything but regular dmc and some dmc metalics and krenik threads. I am going to have to do some shopping on line today to get some silks. yours is looking good.

Very pretty! And so different to Mabel's. It never fails to surprise me how very different the same project can look!

Finally got my Waterlilies on Wednesday and decided to go with Quicksilver. Since then I've stitched up part 2-4; inspired by Mabel I've varied the thickness on the different stitches, the Smyrna is done in 1,2 and 3 strands, french knots in 2 and 3 strands and the eyelets in 1,2 and 3 strands as well.

I usually hate French knots, but they weren't too bad this time around and actually look ok (some are a little wonky). And my eyelets are a little wonky too, but i like them :)

Used the flash on the first picture, shows the fabric more like it is in RL.

:applesauce: Beautiful. I love the fabric and the threads and I don't think any of your stitches look wonky. I think it is lovely. Can't wait for your next update.
