Isabella's Garden

Post by Elsierob »

Hi everyone. This is my first post and hope someone can help. I would like to stitch Isabella's Garden by Lavender & Lace, but am not keen on the colour of the fabric they recommend. I thought it might be o.k. with a blue background? Has anyone else completed this with a different background with good results? Thanks

 Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina. I can't help you as I don't know the piece you are talking about, but I'm sure that if someone is familiar with it they will help you out. Maybe if you post a photo of what it will look like it would be easier to help you decide. What color do they recommend? I would think that whatever you like best would work. Lots of us make changes to charts and even kits because of individual tastes.

:thinks: I haven't.. but I don't see why it wouldn't hurt to change the color background

I change the fabric all the time on different projects that is what makes a piece personal to each of us. I say if you like the blue fabric then I would go for it!!!!!!

Hi and Welcome from Australia.

I have that chart in my stash which is packed away and I have bought a hand died piece of fabric - can't remember if it is linen or even weave. I saw a finished picture of it in the readers page of a magazine and the lady had used muted sunset colours. I think the material I have chosen is a mix of blues pinks and mauves. Its months since I last had it out and all my stuff is still packed away.

I would suggest you got with what ever you feel happiest with but I certainly agree that the fabric they have chosen is not for me either. Perhaps gather the threads together and put them on different coloured fabrics e.g. clothes with lots of blues or similar. Seeing all the threads together sometimes gives me an idea for the fabric colour.

Good luck with it - its a gorgeous chart. I love L&L and have several charts - still unstitched of course.

Hope this is ok to mention here. I often visit the lavender and lace yuku board to look at finishes and WIPs - as there are often a variety of fabric colors used. I check the gallery as well as the regular threads for images.

Good luck choosing a color. Very cute design.

As already suggested I normally take the threads and place them on different fabrics in daylight (Or using an Ott light) to see what would look best. Sometimes I am shocked about what would look good on what. I also ask my family what they think would look best and then I sit on it for a day or two with looking at it at different times of the day.

Edited:
But I just took a look at the pattern and I think the colours look good on that fabric. But if you do change I wouldn't go too light or else you won't be able to see the bubbles very well. I would suggest though trying to stick with a nutural colour fabric because of all the bright colours it needs something to tone down and balance the colours.

Hi. Thanks for your replies. I probably will get all the threads together and try them on different backgrounds. I'd never thought of that!
Happy stitching to you all.

Hi Lynne,

If you go to Polstitches website (they make wonderful hand-dyed fabbys in case you didn't know) they have a fabric viewer on there with Isabella's garden already in the viewer! So you can have a look at her super-imposed on lots of different colour fabbys.

Here is the link to the fabric viewer

Just had fun with it and I just love Silver Sage fabric - but then I love greens anyway.
Will have to have a think about that when I eventually get my stash worked on.

Have just been on the Polstitches website and had a play. It's great, but made me even more confused now as there are 2 or 3 that I like :?

I know what you mean, I had a similar quandry when picking my fabby for Stargazer (the model for which is also stitched on a similar fabby to Isabella's garden). Why not ask the opinion of your family and see which one they prefer? Thats what I did, but I still ended up going for the one which 'called' to me the most  . I'm sure whatever fabby you finally decide to go for will look stunning, I was really happy with how my choice stitched up in the end.

I just had a play on there as well! I think she looks great on Avalon - but that's just my preference. She looks pretty good on several of them.

Just had a look at Avalon, it goes really well with it too.

Elsierob - which fabrics did you like the best?
