Summer Fairy - completed and framed

Post by mlewis »

I didn't put this up as an SAL but thought you might like to see what i have just finished...

Image

My auntie looked after her mother in law when she was unwell and she sadly passed away earlier this year. When sorting through her things, my auntie found a load of cross stitch materials a sewing box and magazines that she didn't have a use for but didn't want to throw away so sent them to me.
I spent a while looking through them, found this pattern and decided to stitch it as a thankyou to both of them for passing on the cross stitch stuff and for my auntie to remember her mother in law. I thought it would be perfect as my auntie loves fairies.

She is called summer fairy and i found her chart in an old cross stitch magic magazine.

There was a lot of metallic cross and back stitch which took a while but i'm glad i have finished her now.
I framed her today and wrote a little thankyou card. Will pop it in the post on Monday and can't wait for my auntie to get her surprise :D

What a thoughtful thing to do - a perfect match of what your aunt likes, a remembrance from what was passed on to you and a thank you all in one - well done indeed. We're big fans of the flower fairies here - I have my eye on quite a few designs and I'm sure that explains my little daughter's latest interest in Tinkerbell and her friends in the latest Disney spinoff movies too!
WIP: Family tree (Design Works Crafts, USA)
Projects in Waiting (selected): Child's weather calendar (Jo Verso Gifts for Children) & Oxford skyline (Heritage)
