Advice on "European Bistro" by Dimensions design

Post by kiwilavagirl »

Hi everyone, this is a continuation on a thread I had about detailing line work. It was suggested that some people may have already done this design and might be able to help me with a question or two I had. I'm having trouble with the line work, the edges of the buildings and windows. It seems from the image on the pack that those lines were done with long back stitches, up to 10 squares at a time... When I do that, however, my lines only look good for a short time before they move and stretch and become distorted. When I try shorter back stitches, with 1 or 2 squares, it makes the lines look messy and halted, not smooth and long. Has anyone been able to overcome this?

Any advice from someone who has done the design, or anyone who has overcome similar problems would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Angela

Hi, I replied on the original post. I have done this piece. I am not sure why your lines look halted over1 or 2. I suggest your loosen the tension a bit...and make sure you go directly into the hole of the fabric as well. I do know what you mean..your line does not look smooth and straight. just be aptient with it. I would not do them over 10 unless it was a diagnonal and I did couching...see the original post.

best of luck..I'll admit it tried my patience and towards the end I got soooo sick of it.

Hi. I haven't stitched this design, but did recently complete the Mighty Samurai design by Dimensions.
Have you tried using a couching stitch, this will keep your lines straight and not "Halted".
I used this stitch on my Samurai. It is easy to do, just dont pull the small holding stitches too tight.

When I first started, I was doing my backstitching wrong. Not sure who it was.. maybe my mother, maybe an aunt.. noticed and taught me how to do it properly.
Even long lines, each square is stitched individually
