Lovely! I've never done any work in one colour before and this is very inspiring. I hope you enjoy your well-deserved meal soon - what a great incentive!

A cute sampler. Shakespeare always reminds me of my school days
where we had to memorise the plays
. Nice Start

Re: Shakespeare Sampler
I just wanted to let you know I received my issue of Cross Stitch Gold with this pattern in it yesterday and I'm so happy! I found it for a good value on eBay. Too bad I can't buy time to stitch on eBay!
I am so interested in stitching this because I did Papillon's 'Mary Queen of Scots" http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-perl/itemd ... item=PC003" target="_blank" target="_blank and it has pride of place in my living room. The "Shakespeare Sampler" is the perfect companion piece because I love Shakespeare, but more importantly, my husband was an amateur actor. So, thank you very much for the inspiration!

Re: Shakespeare Sampler
Raine, I'm so glad you managed to get a copy! And I absolutely have to have that Mary Queen of Scots pattern (as if I don't have enough already!). I bought a biography of Mary Queen of Scots on honeymoon in Scotland earlier this year and that sampler is on the cover http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mary-Queen-Scot ... 879&sr=1-1" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank - I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I liked the cover so much I bought the book!Raine wrote:I just wanted to let you know I received my issue of Cross Stitch Gold with this pattern in it yesterday and I'm so happy! Re: Shakespeare Sampler
Oh, WOW! That's incredible to see it on a book cover! I look at it everyday! I'm going to have to get that book because I've heard that's a great author. I think she also did a really respected book on Marie Antoinette. The book I read that made me fall for Mary Queen of Scots was this one: http://www.amazon.com/Mary-Queen-Scotla ... 283&sr=1-3" target="_blank" target="_blank

Woo hoo! I got the entire magazine (which was fun for me to look at, as I'd never seen it before) for less, including shipping.Mrs Milkybar Kid wrote:Glad we all have the chart from the magazine - I just got an email from European Cross Stitch and they have this chart new in - for $20.50!

Sorry for hijacking your thread Bizzie Lizzie - but just had to say I love Antonia Fraser's books and Margaret George - I'm currently reading her 'autobiography' of Elizabeth I - isn't it funny that sometimes we have more in common than just cross stitch!

Re: Shakespeare Sampler
That Queen of Scots book looks really good! I'm currently reading a book about Edward I and have a few more books lined up which I'm going to read in chronological order taking me through to Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I. It'll be difficult to know whether to stitch or read!!Raine wrote:The book I read that made me fall for Mary Queen of Scots was this one: http://www.amazon.com/Mary-Queen-Scotla ... 283&sr=1-3" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
Raine, a tip for when you do the Shakespeare Sampler. The magazine suggests ironing vilene/interfacing onto the back of the fabric so that any carried dark threads don't show through the front. If you do that, be sure to iron it on securely. Mine's coming loose and is buckling and creasing a bit. Just something to watch out for.
Hijack as much as you like!! I'm happy that you're enjoying my thread. And I agree, it's nice that we have more in common than just stitching.Mrs Milkybar Kid wrote:Sorry for hijacking your thread Bizzie Lizzie - but just had to say I love Antonia Fraser's books and Margaret George - I'm currently reading her 'autobiography' of Elizabeth I - isn't it funny that sometimes we have more in common than just cross stitch!

Great idea! I might consider doing that, or maybe different symbols on different coasters to make a set.paul wrote:Just the part you have done would look great in a coaster!

Re: Shakespeare Sampler
Reluctantly, I am relegating my Shakespeare Sampler to the UFO drawer.
I backed it with Vilene/interfacing, but it has come loose and is creasing. If I carry on stitching, I will end up stitching the creases in and not being able to get rid of them. I'm not sure whether to try and rescue the exising one or start again from scratch without the backing.
While I work out what I'm going to do with it I've taken it off my scroll frame and started "Lioness Profile", a new project to run alongside Coniferous Forest.
