I am doing a MS for a girl at work. Like some others have said it does look blocky now. I am hoping to get more done and hold it at a distance to see if the colors blend more. I haven't gotten very far but did work on it last night and to me it still looks blocky. I have also done Golden kite and HAED but the others don't seem as blocky to me, and I'm not sure why that is.

I've not done any Mystic Stitch, but I do know that on fine fabric, like linen, or fine aida, the stitching doesn't look blocky from normal viewing distance away - hung on a wall! - but coarser fabric, like 14ct Aida and bigger, it can look blocky. That's one reason for backstitching - it smooths out the edges to some extent and divert's the eye from the actual stitches, whilst at the same time adding definition to the design.

Your Mystic Stitch looks as though it is on fine fabric, like vanessanjf's, so no need to worry!

It'll be a bit expensive, but it is well worth getting a magnifier lamp floorstand (or tablestand if you work at a table). I couldn't stitch without mine! I even use it when I'm working with 14ct aida, and it's essential for linen. I've worn spectacles since I was four, I'm now 74, and didn't really take up stitching properly till I was 61 and retired. My eyes are rubbish (I'm almost blind in my left eye), but with my magnifier lamp I can stitch anything!
