Website to help change colour scheme?

Post by flosaxby »

Hi All,

I'm sure that this has been asked before but I can't find the thread just now. Is there a website or software that will help you change a colour scheme for a chart?

I've just bought the Derwentwater Mackintosh Anniversary Sampler design which I want to do for my parents' Ruby wedding anniversary but it's all in purples and I want to do it in reds.

Normally I'd do it by eye but there are 15 different colours and I would just feel more confident if a computer would work out the necessary shades for me.

Does anyone know of something that would help me?

Thanks,
Flo

Don't know if this will do what you want, but it is Freeware, so it might be worth a look:

I couldn't find any other sugestions other than pulling all the purples the chart calls for, laying them out & then trying to find the corresponding reds to fit the shading. From experience, a color chart and having all the flosses available are a must! It can be a bit frustrating!!

Good luck!

Thanks Deb. That looks like good software but it doesn't really do what I want. It only talks about converting a picture to a chart not converting an existing chart to a different colour scheme.

I already have Jane Greenoff's cross-stitch creator software anyway.

I guess I'll just have to do it by eye....

Thanks for your help though,

Flo

What if you do all the other colours 1st

Then do the reds one at a time tweeding some to get the right blend

I often change the colours of my works

A thought can you get a black and white picture of it and scan that in to Jane Greenoff's

Unfortunately there's more than one purple and I'm not sure that the rest of the colours will go with the reds that I want to use.

Maybe I should show a picture of the design: http://www.sewandso.co.uk/Products/Wedd ... -MKP4.aspx

Looks like the other colors are greens? maybe some blue or is that a deep purple? I think that if you change the purple to red you could choose another color if you think the greens would look too Christmasy. You could do shades of tan/brown earthy sorts of colors. Depends on the feel you are trying to get. I'm not great at imagining these things, but maybe look around at some other samplers and get a feel for the color mixes in them, and pick one that you like. Or try a variegated red?

thanks reta.

That's a brilliant idea. I hadn't thought of that!

I'll see what they say. Like you say I've lost nothing if they won't help.

Thanks,

Flo-
It's a lovely design! I've made note of it in my wish-list book in case I have need of something like it in the future. It would also make a great baby's birth announcement!

Again, good luck with the substitutions. If you get stuck, PM me with the floss numbers & I'll have a go at it -- I love a good challenge!

(I work with DMC, but I do have an Anchor color chart to use.)
