Cross-stitch shops in NYC

Post by anashenwrath »

Hi! I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if any of you who may be in the NYC area could recommend a good, cross-stitch friendly shop in Manhattan (preferably Midtown or Uptown, but beggars can't be choosers at this point!)

I just would like to find a place to get aida and floss when I really want to stitch, rather than having to order online (ie, stalk the post office) every time. And I just don't have enough of a collection to rely my own stash yet!

I found a Michaels, but there cross stitch selection was just sad! Everywhere else, I've just checked their online inventory and not had much luck. Maybe someone has personal experience that can help a stitching sister out? :beg:

Thanks!

Well I can't really help with Manhattan (I work on 8th ave but live in SI) however I can give some advice on Staten Island; yes it is a ferry ride away but there is a A.C Moore store out there that is great. The Michaels on SI seems to be unable (or unwilling) to seperate their DMC floss by number (ex. all the pinks are just thrown together regardless of the number) but not with A.C. Moore. It's on south ave, which you may need a car to get to, however if you call them they maybe able to ship stuff to you in the city for a cheap cost (worth a try perhaps?)

Good luck!

I don't live in New York (although I love to visit) but I know of a wonderful store that I discovered in my quilting life. I just looked at their website and I don't see anything cross stitch specific but I see they carry embroidery linen and they have a ton of fine yarns and needlepoint materials so they might have yummy silks. If you stop by and they don't have what you're looking for, they may be able to recommend. Oh, and if you're a quilter, they have a divine selection of Liberty of London fabrics. Good luck!

I was just about to come here and post this! I am starting to work there soon and wanted to find a cool shop.

I found this one, but need to check it out in person still.
