The 28 ct sounds like a good option if you find the tenting more satisfying and it will certainly go faster than haveing to do the full cross stitch. Another option is to go with a larger ct fabric like a 22 or 20 ct and do the full cross stitch. I don't know how many fabrics there are at that ct but I would think you should still have a good selection available. I know what you mean about it being frustrating but once you get the right fabric you will be pleased.

Maybe, if you're going to change your fabric, you would want to try a different color than white so it isn't so obvious where the fabric peeks through? Maybe a tan, dove gray, or another neutral/light color?
Do you think the colour of the fabric will make a difference even if I choose a pale colour? Since the design is very dark navy blue almost all over? I have considered going with a dark fabric, but fear that I will struggle too much to see when I am stitching.
It is so frustrating because I really want to stitch, but the fabric is all wrong so for now I have just added to the things I think about endlessly, which is one reason I stitch, to give my brain a break from useless thinking in circles.
Since I havent stitched much before and nothing for years I am worried about getting it right. I am leaning towards a 28ct now, but would really like to hear if anyone else has any suggestions and experiences with tenting dark designs on 28ct
I'm currently doing a HAED...its called Superstitions and I'm tenting 2 over 1 and I've only completed a coupla pages so far which are mainly in 939 (dark navy blue)...I had the exact same problem as you...couldn't find a combo I liked on 25cnt so went with 28cnt and it looks fine to me now, you can look up my sal if you want to have a look at piccies.
Please bear in mind though that even though it looks great from a short distance away I can still see little flecks of fabby when I'm stitching...you just have to put it down and stand back a bit to see how it looks to everyone else....we are definately the biggest critics of our own work.
I hope you find your perfect combo soon.

My project is a lot of dark reds right now on a mushroom colored fabric. I'll take a picture as up close as I can when I get home from the soccer fields later. (DS has a game @ 2, and I work concessions for the games @ 2 and 3:30.)

Hi Sunshine - I am tenting this guy 2 over 1 on 28 count Bone Lugana and I am extremely happy with the coverage. I had tested on 25 count prior to switching to 28 count and I wasn't happy with the coverage at all...
As promised, here is the picture of my project. As you can see (same as other's projects on 28 ct tent stitch) there are a few small slivers of fabric that you can see close up (3" or so) but they disappear from a distance.

I have ordered 28ct fabric now, my start on 25ct shows a lot more white though than what Busy_B's start shows, with that amount of white I would be happy to keep going on 25ct. I have also avoided white fabric and have gotten mushroom coloured fabric, and I'm hoping this will make the fabric less obvious if it shows through some. Ill see if I can upload my start on 25ct.
I have had exactly the same problem and I am still undecided. I have a few HAED on the go and I am doing 2 over 1 tent on 28ct for two and 2 over 1 tent on 25ct for another. I like the coverage of the tenting on the 28ct but do find that fabric shows thro a little when doing blocks of dark colour. That mostly disappears when it is off the frame however. I want to see how a 2 over 1 tent on 28ct looks on a finished piece when it is washed, ironed etc coz I think that makes a big difference. I personally didn't like the bulky look of the full crosses. I am wondering if I might try another with full crosses on the 28 but as has been mentioned before it does increase stitching time and I found it very difficult to get the needle thro holes which already had a number of threads in them. For the most part I am happy with the coverage on the 28ct with darker colours, light colours on 25ct tenting also look fine.
I don't know if this has helped you in any way.
Still waiting for the 28ct, and worried that coverage will not be good enough even on the 28ct, but I am hoping it will help that the fabrick is not white. We will see...
I've had a trawl on the HAED bulletin board and I've found a pic of a WIP which is a Julie Fain and is tented 2 over 1 on 28cnt....hopefully this will give you an idea of how it can look.......I hope the lady who is stitching this will be ok with me posting this
