I have finished the ornament that was causing me so much grief : )
It actually looks pretty good! Unfortunately I now do not know what to do with it. The unstitched linen surrounding the design measures just about 1-1/2". I'm thinking a little pillow-type ornament finish is my only option. Am I right?
Yes, a pillow is an option, or you could mount it in a box, or in a tuck pillow, or (depending on the size) in a card or coaster, or you could mount it on a cushion -- hem the piece, and attach it by stitching buttons to the corners, but attaching them by taking the needle through both your stitching and the cushion cover, or attach four button to a cushion, spaced wider than your stitching, and attach ribbons to the corners of your stitching and tie them to the buttons.
Marilyn ... I am locked in to making it a hanging type of ornament for a Christmas tree. I like that mounting on a cushion idea though ... will have to give that a try with a future project : )
if you want a hanging ornament yes that is your best bet. I would get some Christmassy fabric, and some festive ribbon and/or buttons and some filling. cut the fabric bigger than your sewing to make a pillow/small cushion. Sew the fabric to your stitching all the way around and 'stuff' the pillow before sewing the final seam. The sew the ribbon to the fabric, and/or use the buttons as decorations and you have one finished ornament
