Looking for bold dark patterns

Post by SheIsJustARat »

Hi everyone...I'm new to this board, but discovered it when I was unsuccessfully searching for some new patterns. I've been poring over Heaven and Earth Designs, but they don't seem to have the types of work I'm looking for. I want something dark and ethereal...abstract even. I came across a company (GeckoRouge) who acquires licensing for patterns from specific artists. I have fallen in love with the work of one of the artists (MADART), but I am also looking for other patterns that might be similar to her work.

Would anyone know where I might find patterns similar to the darker designs at this link? http://www.geckorougegallery.com/index. ... ry&path=59" target="_blank

I'm a big fan of the "Blue Infinity", "Lost Love" series, "Ravens", "Cherry Blossoms" and "Tears of Red" designs, if that helps you to understand the type of patterns I'm looking for.

Any suggestions on where to look will be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,
Suze

 Hello and welcome to the forum. I can't help you with finding the type of design you are looking for as I would have suggested Heaven and Earth Designs. Someone else on the forum may know where you can look. Or you could consider having one of the artists works converted to a pattern with the artist's permission. Several people have done that here and we have a member who is excellent and doing the conversions at a very reasonable cost.
But hope you stick around regardless. Are you working on something now?

Thanks for the welcome Carole!

The link I posted is actually where I can purchase some of that artist's work...which is great! Pricey, but great. I'm just now looking for other similar designs, so fingers crossed that someone might know of a place to look. To be honest, I haven't had much luck finding just art to hang on the walls similar to that, so finding cross stitch patterns may be a near impossibility. Basically I want some designs that don't have people or animals, and aren't real places, so to speak. I'll keep looking though!

I've been away from stitching for a number of years...just haven't had the time! But a friend of mine has been looking to set up some stitch and bitch sessions, and has passed me a new design to work on. Haven't started yet, but I will eventually. So you'll likely see me around here at some point. ;)

If you contact the artist and ask ver ynicely, the artist may be agreeable to you converting a piece of their art into a cross stitch pattern for personal use (just assure them you won't be selling the chart at all). There's someone on this forum who does conversion for a very reasonable price who could do it for you if yoiu don't have the programme yourself.

Thanks for the suggestions! If I find something, I'll definitely keep you in mind for doing a conversion.

The problem is the finding something part. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone might know where there are some patterns (or even art!) similar to what I'm looking for...

Thanks again...

Hi Suze & welcome!

Have you tried this site for Classic Cross Stitch? The 3 Canadian sections have some very bold & graphic pieces and I just love Picasso's Cat in one of the Miscellaneous sections!! http://www.classiccrossstitch.com/Menu.html" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

Mystic Stitch has a lot of fractal patterns in the Abstract area if that might interest you?

At least one of these sites also lets you download the pattern. Good luck with your search!

The Group of Seven stuff under the Canadian sections are fantastic! I will likely download some of those to create. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ravens is gorgeous! I'd love to have it on my wall.

Do you like Hiroshige? Orenco Originals carries charts for some of his work.

I was browsing the Orenco Originals ebay selections & absolutely fell in love with this Stylized Art Nouveau Tulips design by Mackintosch!   It's bold, dark, and bright all at the same time. I'd love to stitch it, but have soooo many other irons in the fire as it is! ...Thought there might be someone else out there who is into this type of design! It's a "buy it now" selection & there were 3 available. http://www.ebay.com/itm/230671578507?ss ... 1438.l2648
