Fabric for bookmarks?

Post by JazzeyBear »

Just a couple of questions about bookmarks. I've found a HAED story keeper that I'm going to make for my best friend for is birthday, but I'm unsure on what kind of fabric I should use. The pattern calls for 25 count I believe but since I've only worked on aida before, I'm unsure if I should try a 25 ct fabric or stick with the aida. I'll post a picture of which design I'm going to go later on today when I can actually get on my computer. When doing a bookmark, do you use a hoop or just hold it?
An Angel in the book of life wrote down my baby's birth. And whispered as she closed the book "too beautiful for earth."

If you wanted to stick to an aida-like fabric, you could always try stitching it on 22-count hardanger. It would turn out only slightly larger than 25-count and would still be small enough to show the detail without lokoing blocky. It would also still stand a chance of being a size usable as a bookmark. :)

You could certainly use 22 ct fabric designed for hardanger - the double sets of threads makes it slightly easier to see where to place your needle if you are used to Aida. Remember to get "Hardanger" which is quite stiff rather than "Oslo" which is much softer (great for table linen, not so good for bookmarks?)

The least scary of the non-Aida fabrics is Lugana because it's an evenweave, and it really is quite easy to see the holes. It seems to be the fabric of choice for many doing HAED projects.
