Lenne wrote:*hugs her Q-snaps* I love them. Love, love love. Plus I am super lazy and leave my work in my q-snap frame and they don't leave permanent marks or creases. I am currently doing a project too small for a hoop so stitching in-hand and I could cry I miss my q-snap frame so much!
That is very reassuring! It still hasn't arrived. But I only ordered it on Sun/Mon...I think I'm just anxious to get it and start stitching again!

Fingers crossed it arrives soon, and that you find it comfortable to use too

I too love my qsnaps, and I leave them on for weeks at a time without any problem. Over time, the piece that snaps over the frame can get alittle loose, or if your fabric is thin, or if you want to protect what you've already stitched from having that piece snapped over it, then putting another piece of material between your stitching fabric and the snapping piece will help with tension and protection. Another accessory that I absolutely LOVE with the qsnaps is the grime gard for qsnaps at http://www.nordicneedle.com/" target="_blank" target="_blank. I can roll my fabric right into it and it's not hanging all over the place and keeps my hands from touching the fabric very much and getting it all dirty. I'm using an 11x11 sized grime gard with my 8x11 frame, and my piece of 23x30 in. aida is all rolled up and fits completely in the gard.

That is a good point. About getting a larger grime guard. Mine is the same size as my qsnaps and it gets awfully bulky when I put the fabric into it. My qsnaps are 8 x 8 (I have a larger one also 11 x 14 I think and it is just way too big for me to manage. but maybe if I get an 11 x 11 guard it will work better. What do the others of you do who use q snaps. I love mine for my LOTR, though a wooden hoop works much better for the afghan.

I have little problem with my qsnaps and the grime guard. I use the 11 x 11 inch one most of the time, and it's that one that I have the grime guard for. I usually don't stitch too large of projects--the one I am working on currently, Earth Goddess, will be about 11 x 14 finished so the fabric is about 16 x 20. I just roll up the excess evenweave and then put the grime guard in place as best as I can

thanks, Karen. That is what I have been doing. My piece doesn't seem too large to me (Its the LOTR piece and I don't remember the exact fabric size. the larger qsnaps which I first bought just seem cumbersome to me. I love the feel of the 8 x 8 and the tension. I might think the piece is small because I'm so used to all that afghan fabric in my lap.) I'll probably order the larger guard though because it would be great to be able to get the extra fabric in the guard without so much bulk. I don't know if I'm making sense. and it really isn't a big deal, but I thought when I saw sitchnsew's post that wasn't something I had thought of.

Well,I am going to go against the grain so to speak.I loathe QSnaps. They make my hands ache and are awkward to use.Ditto with hoops.Iam a scroll frame fan.Mine are all mounted on a flat base .Vertical post going from the edges of the base to the middle of the side bars.Imagine a floor stand with very short legs.I can sit the frame across the arms of a chair, put it on a taber or on my lap.I hane them in sizes from 6" up to 33".They all have heavy tape on the scroll bars and I sew my fabric on with perle12.It's all a matter of what suits you.I had a Danish friend who did all her stitching in hand-huge pieces.

I use both scroll frame and Q-snaps. I just recently got a lap stand to hold my scroll frame and I love it!!!! It allows me to use both hands when stitching so whenever I have a large project, I use my lap stand/table stand. I use Q-snaps when I am on the road or visiting.... but at home, I use my table/lap stand with my scroll frame.
I used it a bit, and love it! So far so good! I prefer smaller frames to stitch with. I sit at my computer (A LOT) and it just works well. My current project will eventually be 9"x12". The excess fabric just hangs. Sometimes I roll it up and use a safety pin through the weave to hold it in place so I don't smudge it, like you pointed out. I find it works well. I'm not puncturing holes, just using ones already there!
I tried the scroll frame...and just do not like it at all. Too big and quirky for me. The 8x8 Qsnap works awesome.
Thank you all for the tips and suggestions!!

I'm so glad that you are enjoying working with it, and hope that you continue to! I rarely use a normal hoop now--the qsnaps are just perfect for nearly all of my stitching needs

The bigger ones tend to really make your arm/wrist ache holding it in place after a while so you might find you will want to invest in a stand for it; just mentioning it because I wish I got one sooner instead of waiting until my wrist got sore (me silly) hehe!
