I especially like the little curly-q's on his beard. Santa is very stylish.

There are still mistakes here and there, but nothing I can't work around. And I'm being much more careful with my pattern and marking off rows as I complete them.

Hehe, boyf keeps asking to see it; he's feigning interest, but I think he really just wants to make sure his hard work wasn't for naught! I guess when it's done I'll have to tell his mother he helped!

Thanks for all the kind words!

Santa is coming along nicely! Question: has anyone stitched on a plane in recent history? I have to travel for work this weekend, and I'd love to take advantage of the free time to get some stitching in, but I don't want to be tackled by security. Maybe it's better not to pull out a needle on a plane, and just save it for the hotel.

Santa is coming along very well :applesauce:

I actually did take some stitching with when I flew in April to see my step mom. I packed needles, but did take 2 with me in my carryon with my project. I didn't stitch on the plane but did in the waiting area before the flights. The needles went through security okay which is what I was worried about. Planes are too crowded for me to stitch. I took my LOTR so all I had to do was black stitches and didn't have to worry about following a pattern. If they let it through security I don't see why you couldn't stitch on the plane, but I would pack extra needles in your checked luggage just in case they do confiscate it.

Thank you! I think the colors really pop, and they look good against the beige evenweave. :D

@rc: ok, thanks for the info! I think I'll do the same and stitch once I'm in the terminal, but not on the plane. I do my stitching on the subway, so I'm accustomed to small spaces, but I would be too worried about it freaking someone out (and unlike the subway, they can't just give me a dirty look and change seats, lol!) I guess I can use flight time to study for finals. sigh!

I stitched on a plane last month. I brought nail clippers instead of scissors to cut my thread, and I only brought one needle. No problems.

Edited to clarify: I did pack more needles in my checked bag, just brought one for on the plane in case they confiscated it!

Aww, this is coming along so nicely. I love the sunflower on his coat! I've also taken stitching on a plane, but stitched in the terminal before we left and not actually during the flight.

[quote="anashenwrath"]Question: has anyone stitched on a plane in recent history? I have many times- the last time was over the summer.
I precut threads to about 8-10" and make up my own thread cards- holes punched around an index card.
You can now bring small embroidery scissors. I just leave long tails and cut them all when I get to wherever I am going. I bring 2 needles- blunts not sharps
I've never been stopped or questioned- go to the TSA and check through the list of approved and unapproved items to double check- but as of this summer needles and scissors were OK.
I even know I have to sit in an aisle seat on the left side of the plane so that my right arm is to the aisle.
I wish I had an airline seat set up in my house. I love that overhead light- adjustable to wherever you need it to be. And a little tray in front of you. I slip my pattern under the tray clippie thing. I can't do anything really complicated with lots of thread changes or on a high count fabric- but it is amazing how much you can get done on a flight. Unless you have a chatty neighbor. My last flight was on Southwest, where there are no seat assignments. A woman sat next to me because she too was a stitcher- but didn't think to bring her project on a plane. She saw me railroading and asked what the purpose was. We chatted about threads and fabrics and designers.. all the same topics on this board. And I told her about this board. I think I put about 50 stitches in.. on a 3 hour flight. But I would gladly chat up another stitcher than to keep my nose in a project.

This is such a pretty design and you're doing really well. I had no idea a Santa mixed with sunflowers could be so pretty. :applesauce:
