Thank you everyone for your help. The area stitched is not fully done. Some small holes and not able to find the place on the chart. Maybe that is why the project was abandoned? I like the pattern and I think that I will just start over on the entire thing. It makes me go cross-eyed just looking at the pattern, let alone trying to look at the pattern and then the stitching and back again to try to figure the thing out. I will let you know how it goes.

Peacock tapestry is an absolutely gorgeous and stunning piece when done - my FIL did it and every time I see it, I just think wow! I think I would be inclined to do as you are doing and just start again, not least because the pear tree bit is not a fully stitched canvas anyway and who's to say the stitching in already is in fact accurate.

That is tricky.

I'd either start again as can you be 100% sure what has been stitched is right? Because if there holes unstitched in places it should be easy to find that place on the chart.

If they have started in the centre it might not be as tricky to work it out. Depends on the colour shades really.

How about you find the center of the fabric and count how many stitches along and high it would be on the fabric use a grid pen to mark where the picture would end and work it out that way. Hope that makes sense
Finished:
