I don't know how to say this....
But I haven't picked up my needle since late September. I fear to look at my cross stitching incase it's got dust on it, and I'm not 100% sure of its location. Luckily though my stitchy bug (who takes regular vacations) I think is on his way back. Gotta find a cage for that damned thing.
Anyone else have this issue where you can have periods of time where you don't stitch? Seems to happen to me every year.

Re: I don't know how to say this....
Happens to most everyone at some time I think. I haven't had this happen in a long time, but I think I keep my stitchy bug on a leash now. It also doesn't seem to happen if I have more than one project going on, which is only something that I do now that I have joined the forum and learned it was okay to do. Makes a huge difference for me to be able to do more than one at a time. Working on my mini amethyst right now almost to the exclusion of everything else isn't as easy as I thought it would be as I am itching to get back to my others. Starting the HAED SAL really helped. I don't know if that applies to you or not. I used to go as long as 6 mts or even a year without stitching. Hard to believe now. I hope you find your projects. If not, maybe you could chose a new one to get started with.

Re: I don't know how to say this....
This has always happened to me. I've gone years.....yes, YEARS
...without stitching. I've gone so long, in fact, that by the time I pick something back up it's out of style.
Now that I know it's okay to rotate I'm hoping this won't happen and I'll stitch a little each week and even each day.

Re: I don't know how to say this....
It happens to me- usually its when life's little events pile up. I'm too busy to get my projects out and work on something. Progress on my projects slowed down some time in August/ September. I had a few busy weeks at work, visitors at my house, and too many weekends in a row that were chaotic and I didn't have enough time during the week to get caught up. I don't stitch when I am tired- mentally or physically- I've learned it only leads to visits from
or adjustments to the pattern later on.

Me neither. My own personal rule of thumb is to stop stitching as soon as I make the first mistake.MaggieM1750 wrote:I don't stitch when I am tired.

Prior to joining the forum last June, my stitchy bug had been on vacation for five years!!!
But he appears to be quite settled at home now. I'm not having to leash him (or her!) . . . yet!
This forum also keeps me motivated.

Mine regularly takes a break too - usually when I'm feeling very tired (quite common with a horrendously active 11 month old in the house) and also when feeling ill. It's currently just about there (feeling rotten today so no stitching today) and hoping will revive with a bang in the next couple of days.

I might possibly be in hiatus right now, but I am pretending that I'm not. Mostly Christmas doings have kept me from it, so now I have to get back to all my stuff. Hoping to post an update to Happy Everything soon.

Re: I don't know how to say this....
This last few years I have lost the bug, but it came back in November/December
I think it was a combination of having a second baby resulting in being tired/ having less spare time and the projects I was working on at the time. I should have swapped to smaller ones that I could just pick up for 20 mins or so but didn't feel I 'should' it kind of started feeling like a chore! I have started to get some time back for myself now though and i'm looking forward to getting those projects finished!!

Re: I don't know how to say this....
Mhm this happens to me in winter. I don't knit when it's hot outside because the wool feels to warm, so I stitch. In winter I love the feel of warm wool in my hands, so I knit and my stitchy bug goes to sleep. I didn't really stitch during the last month. I had a rough time with all the stuff at university and moving and various personal things that just took away the time for crafting. But now my bug is back and I hope it stays for a little time =)
When the bug is on holiday, I usually look at other peoples stitching to make it come back earlier and it usually works

Re: I don't know how to say this....
LOL, I've been suspicious of this with myself so jumped in and did a couple of quick finishes to keep myself enthused. I'm now eyeballing my longterm projects, knowing I need to do something on them.carolanne wrote:I might possibly be in hiatus right now, but I am pretending that I'm not. In the meantime I bought 2 new charts. Yeah, that's just what I need.

Re: I don't know how to say this....
Yup happens to me too - quite regularly actually. then I either do something else or pick up small quick and easy projects to do
Other times I feel like I want to do nothing BUT stitch and make leaps and bounds of progress in my projects.
worst thing you can do is to worry about it. Don't force it and your stitchy bug will find its way back to you.
I'm wondering if I could affix a collar and leash to mine so I can let it roam but pull it back when I want to do some work

Re: I don't know how to say this....
Happens to me all the time, with anything I like to do.
I tend to have periods where I "obsess" over a certain activity, and then just lose interest until some time down the line where I find myself all into it again.

Re: I don't know how to say this....
my stitchy-bug was gone so long i thought it died, never to be resurrected again. i gave away most of my charts and flosses. (GASP
). i moved 2 or 3 times, got remarried, changed jobs, went to school etc, etc... then last april i said to myself, "self, you need a hobby..."
remembered how much fun i had stitching, and the rest is new history. had a terrible time until i joined this forum and relearned much of what i had forgotten. it's become easier each month, and soon, i'll be rotating 2 new projects with my autumn sampler. (don't want that to turn into a UFO!)
what a relief to read that so many others have experienced the same thing, each to a different degree, and we've all come back. how great is that!!!

Well, I didn't say I'd quit stashing.

Re: I don't know how to say this....
I'm exactly the same as Carole. I used to go up to a year without stitching, till I joined the forums and started working on more than one thing at a time. I took a 2 week vacation for Xmas and New Years and didn't take any stitching with me, and I've been dying to get back to it now, although I need a few days to put the house in order first. A few years back, a vacation like that would make me forget my stitching bag in a closet for a year or so.rcperryls wrote:Happens to most everyone at some time I think. Yep, happens to me all the time. In fact I haven't done any since I finished stitching the baby towels in June.
I'm hoping my bug is coming back as my brother has announced his engagement and I've just ordered the materials for the wedding sampler I'm planning to do.
