My floss arrived last Monday, thankfully. :) I'm almost finished, but I wanted to show an update. It looks so much better without so many holes!

First, the whole thing:

Second, a detail of the lower part, where it called for some Krienek #4. I was wary of using it, but it turned out a lot nicer than I thought it would and works SO MUCH BETTER than similar stuff that DMC makes. Krienek loads sturdier, and while the end does fray a bit as you stitch, you still don't lose as much and it doesn't knot up and catch as badly.

Image

I'll post once I have a finish. I'm tossing around the idea of framing this instead of making it into a bookmark; I know my niece reads and she's tidy (in other words, she's not going to drop it in her soup), but she might appreciate it more as something she could hang on her wall. She's 9 or 10. Hmm....thoughts?

:applesauce: Beautiful. I'm so glad your threads arrived. You have made really quick progress on this one. Hard to decide how to finish it. It would be fun for your niece to show off as a bookmark (I would want to show it off), but that does leave it vulnerable to getting lost or misplaced at school and that would make her unhappy I am sure. Something to keep on her wall makes the most practical sense I think. Depends on how practical you want to be.
Sorry, I'm no help at all in making these kinds of decisions.

Ketta, it looks amazing, great job! I personally would frame it, but that's just me. I'd want to look at it all the time! :)

i think it's beautiful :applesauce:

and i'd want the bookmark...i like to touch things :)

when i was 10ish , my mom gave me a bookmark of stitched leather she got on her honeymoon at a lodge. i've treasured it always.

if it's not a surprise, you could ask her ... :thinks:

Ketta, that's a gorgeous colour and how great that it is from your prize too.
Hope your threads get there very soon.

I have that problem with Riot which is a general craft store (English I think) and their DMC stock is woeful. I have never seen a full board of threads and their ordering is done from a central shop/office. Thankfully I have found a picture framers who are also stitchers of beautiful work, and they stock DMC, some tapestry wool and some hardanger threads too and bits of fabric and a small selection of charts.
Watch out for the postman too. Letter in the mail on Friday.

I really love all of the pinks used in this! And I personally would frame it...it would be a shame for this to get all skin oils and print from books on it. Maybe use some of the threads you have left over and make her another bookmark of a simpler design? And as already said with it being a bookmark it could easily be misplaced or even stolen if she took it to school...I like to think the best of everyone but there are a few people out there who have sticky fingers...

This is so gorgeous Ketta! I'd maybe go for framing it - that way it would never get lost ( I always used to loose bookmarks not matter how careful I was!) and if e-books take over the world in the future it will still have a purpose as a truly beautiful object for all to admire!

Wonderful work!! I too am a touchy and feely person... I'd appreciate it more as a bookmark as well.. but not all 10 year olds are as reliable as they claim lol.. I guess it depends on if you trust her to be responsible enough not to lose it...
