American Dream (subversive stitch)

Post by anashenwrath »

So boyfriend's mom gets a pretty little rustic Santa Clause, while my own mom is going to get an over-the-top tribute to 'merica! (courtesy of Steotch of Etsy.)
Image
My mother is a very conservative right wing "love it or leave it" kind of gal, while I'm... well, I'm not very political at all actually, but I'm definitely not of the same party as her! but we love to laugh about it and so I'm hoping she'll appreciate this as being tongue in cheek and made with love.

plus, it SO nice to be stitching over one on Aida after 3 months of evenweave! Although I’m actually having some trouble figuring out what how to hold the fabric. This is my biggest project and as you can see, it’s off to a wrinkly start. Maybe I’ll put it in my Q-snap?
Image
Also, I’m changing the planes to guns (bcs my mom is scary into guns.) and I’m changing the donut to a baseball (bcs my mom is also scary into baseball ). Seriously, sometimes I wonder why I hang out with her. lol!

And with the butter.. could be a tribute to Paula Deen as well!
Have fun with this one- I am all for customizing a pattern to better suit the recepient. I don't think I have stitched a pattern exactly as it was designed.

This will be fun to do and I'm sure your Mom will love it. I also think the butter must be a tribute to Paula Dean. You've made a great start. :applesauce:

Haha, yes I think you're right about the Paula-butter connection. I'm pretty sure my mom is not a fan of Paula Deene, but she loves food network and she is definitely a fan of butter in her cooking, lol! :cake:

I'm also loving this because I'm learning all sorts of new stitches. I've never done backstitches like this before, and I have to do French knots. I'm not even sure what those are, but the internet will help me out I'm sure!

Thanks for the well wishes!

It looks great. Nice start! :applesauce: :applesauce:
You may wonder what planet I'm from, but I don't know who Paula Deene is!

@JA, no don't worry. I respect you for that!

Paula Deen (I've been spelling it wrong, shows what i know!) is on the Food Network Channel in the US. She's this big Southern lady with an accent that HAS to be exaggerated. She's well known for eschewing all the healthy eating trends, and instead just making full-fat, full-sugar calorie bombs that everyone loves to hate.

Apparently, in some crowds, your opinion of Paula Deen can make or break others' opinion of you. Some people love, some people hate her.

This about sums it up, i think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42oUVwyFsZI

I've just watched the video. Is this lady for real?  Cheesecake in a wonton wrapper with chocolate, then deepfried and smothered in cream, sugar and syrup? Oh, yuck!!! Talk about being over the top. If she eats like that in her "real life" then she'd better have good health insurance, that's all I can say!
It was certainly an education. Thanks, Anashenwrath.

She's for real.. and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a few years back. It all just came out as she is now a spokesperson for some diabetic drug or testing equipment.. something. So lots are pointing the finger at her recipes as the cause.. or at least a significant contributing factor.. in the diagnosis.
