I LOVE the variegated green on green... but then I'm an absolute fool for variegated thread. :D Seriously, it's stunning.

Now there's an idea :thinks: -- I wonder if there is a Caron thread in just the right sort of sloe-y purple :-)

As I wrote in FOF, I changed my mind about the colour for Flodgarry 2 at the last moment -- it's now a lot "softer" than I originally envisaged, and I'm glad I made the change.

The fabric is interesting -- I bought it from a Dutch online shop, and it is Zweigart's Sambuca, an afghan fabric with a decorative grid woven in. The site said it was a 25ct fabric, so I thought I'd try it out. Now the odd thing is, wherever I look for it, even on Zweigart's own website, it is described as a 28ct fabric; but the fabric I got sent is definitely 25ct :thinks: :thinks: !

Because of that I won't put it in the chart pack as the recommended fabric, but I do think it looks rather nice with the decorative grid "framing" the embroidery:

Cross my heart is gorgeous as is Flodgarry II.

As for the difference of count with zweigart fabrics, I recently bought some Fine Ariosa on eBay. It was in the original Zweigart packaging, and it said 21-count, but I know the Zweigart Fine Ariosa that Sewandso sells is 22-count. A little confusion however in my case the count difference isn't so big as to be an issue.

Just beautiful Mabel! And that fabric does set the piece off well. I wonder if Carole will pick this one up for her afghan too?

If I ever figure out how to do Hardanger's  (which I will, but need some dedicated time to it I think - never say never since I joined up here is something I have learned!)
Until then I am going to admire and love all of Mabel's designs.

Stitching Bug looks like another great piece - I love the look of the vibrant red thread! Funnily enough I was only thinking about the topic in your FOF just today. I am stitching on a TSG piece and was thinking how much I love stitching words especially when using variegated/overdyed threads as it shows them off so well. For some reason I am especially drawn to designs featuring French sayings and words. Had a glimpse at your planned designs and am very much looking forward to seeing Shades stitched up!

A preview :-) -- I've finished Stitching Bug  , but it won't go up on the website until the weekend, or possibly Monday. In spite of the slight colour difference between the two red perle cottons (see FOF) it's turned out pretty much the way I'd intended it which is always nice :-)!

Anyway, here it is:

:applesauce: Love it. So cute. And I read your piece on the FOF and find it really interesting. I don't always follow the ins and outs of the designing part , but how you choose names and all was really interesting to read. And the current one about the difference in the colors made me curious to see how it turned out. I think it looks very natural. If you didn't point it out it wouldn't hardly be obvious. Very subtle.
