The larger ones which I don't give away, but intend to hang or finish some way or another, I tend to roll up together and put in an old cotton pillowcase and stored in a rattan basket. Let's air get to them, but keeps them out of the light. The smaller ones, which theoretically shouldn't be hanging around for long (theoretically!), I keep in a plastic wallet. Not really a good solution, but it is meant to be temporary. Problem is, the fun for me is in stitching... I'm a rotten finisher.

I lay a sheet of acid free tissue paper on my finished project before rolling it and putting it in pillow case. I just pulled one out to have a look at it, it's about 8 years old and looks as good as the day I put it away. I don't normally keep anything this long but I stitched an all white wedding sampler and fortunately hadn't got around to putting the names and date on it as the wedding was called off. The first of my three grandsons to marry will get this one.
That is one of the reasons that I got started doing afghans. It meant I didn't have to frame which is expensive and I don't have much wall space because my husband's paintings are on the walls. I do have a few early framed pieces up. The afghans are used as afghans and cover up all the scratch marks from my kitties so they are all out.
I now (thanks to this forum) also have some pieces to frame and others wrapped in a pillowcase in a drawer. Trying to decide what to do. and I agree with the others. The fun is absolutely in the stitching.

You could always rotate your stitchings based on seasons or holidays or just to change it up a little bit? No reason to have the same one up all the time!
Mm.... Seem like I can get some small cushion for my house to make it as pillow case! Ha, current my house doesn't have those small pillow.... That's the good idea to showing my project....
Thanks for sharing idea....
