So my friend had given me this pattern of a painting by Ruth Sanders a while back...she had bought it thinking she would do it but turns out she never did and thought I would be more interested.
I have been a fan of her artwork since I was 6 and got her Twelve Dancing Princesses book. I have to do the Golden Wood next if this works out well...
So my question...Do you have to start on the left top hand corner? I was thinking about starting on the right hand side and working my way to the left since I don't know if I want all that extra space you see on the left hand side.
You can start wherever you want as long as you don't get lost! Don't worry the HAED police won't come out to get you.......
There are loads of tips on the forum already but the best ones for me are to do a test stitch on different pieces of fabric (counts/types and full/tent stitch) to make sure you are happy with your choice and also to join the HAED BB as they have ALL the information you will ever need......enable you further.....and you will be addicted for life!

what a beautiful design, haven't done a haed myself yet, but the one I am doing at the moment, I started from top left, in the end it's your preference, I keep swapping between stitching the faces and the background to stop me getting bored. whatever way you do it, it will be stunning

Gorgeous design!! I can't wait to see you work on it You can stitch it in any order you like. I normally start at page 1 and work my way through but it is entirely up to you.

The great thing is that THERE ARE NO RULES other than the ones you make up for yourself and you can change them whenever you want. I typically start in the upper left corner, but some start at the right and some at the bottom and some do the middle and out. Whatever works for you is what matters.
That is a gorgeous design. I hope that as you work on it you will post updates.

Thanks you guys! I am so excited to start this one and of course I will post updates...I just have to finish my peony flowers first and figure out my fabric!
And I am happy I can start on the right top hand corner! It will make it easier to see if I like it with just Cinderella or if she needs the extra space to the left. There is a lot of black in this one hahaha huge sections! But also huge sections of other colors. So shall be interesting!
I say start wherever you like and where you're most comfortable with. I hate starting HAEDs on page one, I lose interest fast, so my latest one I've started with the face and working around that as a focal point.
Good luck with your HAED, you have a beautiful design there to stitch
I think the only golden rule is wherever you start, make sure you leave enough room round the edge for finishing. Otherwise I'm sure if you really wanted to (and loved counting!) you could do alternate pages

I started on it tonight. I am doing it on 18 count Aida and doing full stitches. My fabric was just a tiny bit smaller than what it called for so I trimmed off the first couple rows on the bottom and a few on the top to make up for it...and I even used a ruler to make sure I left enough room for framing! I think I am going to trim off the far right side of it too...but we shall see when that time comes! Hehe its so exciting....I will post photos once I am done the first page
This is a gorgeous design! I think starting from the right is great.. until I joined this forum I always did my projects from the center and then moved counter clockwise..
