Washing white plain cloth

Post by johe07 »

Currently I'm tidy up my room. I found I got a DMC WHITE Aida cloth there.
Since it already long time there. The white cloth got lot yellow spot on it.
I think to make it back to original plain white, not sure what kind of detergent I can use to clean out the yellow spot??

It still quite a big cloth, waste if I throw. :(

I not sure can I bleach it?
Or any other good idea??

Thanks a lot...

Depending on where the spot is would it not be covered by stitching

Or hidden when framed

Because now is still plain cloth, so I not sure will it cover by stitch. It also may locate at the blank display area ...

The yellow spot just like our whith shirt hang in closet quite a long time without cover, some area turn to yellow or have yellow spot...

Have you washed it yet?
If not you could try a biological detergent and see if the yellow comes out. Soak it first in hot detergent overnight then wash fairly hot.

If it's pure cotton then you could dye it cream!
I've dyed fabric successfully all sorts of colours. :D
You could even scrunch it up in a deeper cream dye and get a marbled effect. DIY designer fabric!
As you say, it's too good to waste!

Hi wendywombat, thanks for reply.

I not yet wash as I never wash any Aida cloth.

Mm, I have no experience on dye fabric.
The Aida is DMC 14ct Aida, so, it is cotton??

May be I can now search the information about due fabric...

Thanks for the dye idea!

Dying is a good idea You could soak in cold tea or coffee for a brownish look

but I would still try to work a pattern on to it so it will be covered with thread

If its a rust spot (orangy/brown) I found this

Removing Rust From Clothing is Easy
The best way to get rust stains out of your clothing is to use a lemon, or table salt and cream of tarter.

Lemon

•To use a lemon, lay your garment on a flat surface on top of a towel.

•Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice onto the rust stain. (If you do not have a lemon, you can use bottled lemon juice, it works just as well.)

•Lay your garment in the sun and allow it to dry.

•Once your garment has dried, look to see if the rust stain has lifted. If it has not, repeat the process.
•If the rust stain is removed, launder your garment.

Salt and Cream of Tarter

•To use salt and cream of tarter, simply make a mixture using equal parts of both.

•Lay your garment on a flat surface on top of a towel.

•Spread your cream of tarter and salt mixture onto the rust stain.

•Place your garment in the sun and allow it to dry.

•If the rust stain has lifted, launder the shirt.

•If the rust stain has not lifted, repeat the process.

DMC fabric washing instructions here:
http://www.dmccreative.co.uk/Products/F ... /Aida.aspx" target="_blank

I have never had a problem washing aida, and white should come up very nicely - I have a UFO that goes a bit yellow and I have washed it several times. I tend to use Zweigart aida - it may go a bit floppy when wet but will stiffen up when you iron it.

I would personally bleach it as it is white i would put a small amount in a washing up bowl and add warm water then place the material in folded so that the yellow part is underneath and then i would soak it for a hour or so then i would rinse it several times till you are sure it is all out then just drip dry it.

I doubt there will be any problem as long as you only use a small amount and its dissolved in the water well, and then rinse it very thoroughly.
You have lots of options to try first though they make work and if not then give it a go.

I'd use bleach as a last option before dyeing. Try soaking and washing first.

It should be 1000% cotton if it's DMC so washing bleaching an dyeing are all options! :D

I think you should try washing it first to see if the stain will come out, before dying or bleaching it.

i was given by a friend white aida that was aged yellow..

i washed it per dmc website instructions..it lightened up a big.
i washed it a 2nd time..still not bright white..

i bleached it and turned out fine..nice and white..just make sure you mix the right amt of bleach per water and make sure you rinse it very well.

I just tried to bleach the Aida cloth. Wow, it great!
It brighten back!

I used 1 cup of bleach bottle cap and add 10-15 cup of water, I soak around 3 hours and it turn white, and those yellow stain gone too....

Thanks for your all the suggestion, may be next time I will try to dye the cloth. :applesauce: :D
