Filling in Space
Question for everyone. When you are filling in a big section all one color, how do you go about it. Do you do the whole big row together or do you do it in rows of 10 or how do you go about it?
I am working on filling in the white to a large controller on a project and the first sort of section I did up and down the entire length, but those rows seemed awfully long so then I tried to go the other way and do 10 at a time and come back, but then I was feeling like it was making no progress....

Re: Filling in Space
I do a whole row, first doing ////// left to right then coming back \\\\\\\ right to left, then repeat for the next row and the next and so on. Doing it this way means I always come up in an unoccupied hole and go down in an occupied one.
My Lioness Profile has large areas of solid black and I know what you mean about not feeling as though you're making progress, but I bet you're making more progress than you realise. I find comparing my SAL photos helps motivate me because I can see how much I've done compared with, say, a week ago.
Hope you find a way of doing it that suits you!

I do it the same way as Lizzie. It seems like it takes a while to do it and your don't get far, but suddenly you look at it and go "wow, that is a lot!".

This is what I do, I also start from the bottom so my needle is going up, as I find it easier to stitch that way.BizzieLizzie wrote:I do a whole row, first doing ////// left to right then coming back \\\\\\\ right to left, then repeat for the next row and the next and so on.

me too. Except (there is always an except with me) when the whole page is pretty much one color (like my LOTR with all the black), then I stitch in colums doing the 10 x10 blocks. I find it easier to keep track of how much I have done and finishing a column feels like I have accomplished something. I haven't noticed any issue with lines so they seem to be blending well.

Re: Filling in Space
I stitch differently that all of you.
When I have a large block of the same color.. granted, I've never stitched a background on a HAED, but an area larger than say 5x5 stitches. I will stitch all the under stitches, line by line, moving horizontally. Then when I do my top stitch, I do them all in vertical rows. I think it looks "stripey" if I go row by row- so I switch directions.

Re: Filling in Space
I complete each cross as I go and move in whatever direction seems right to me at the time. I don't do HAED so this is probably no help at all to you....
