This is a great site and forum for all newbies, I have done cross stitch for a while but I can honestly say that I still class myself as a newbie. I stitch on Aida and I have recently finished a kit, but I would like to try stitching on evenweave. Do any of you kind people have any tips for me? Do I use a hoop? Is it easier to stitch on than Aida?
All tips and advice are greatly appreciated.
Hi, Coffeegirl,
I'm relatively new to cross-stitch myself and just started using evenweave fabric. My advice is to try Monaco 28ct first (stitching over 2 threads). It's like cotton, very easy to work with, and it's easier to figure out what a "block" is than I thought it would be. The reason I like 28 ct is that it's the same size stitch as 14 ct aida, just over two threads instead of one block, so you can use the same size fabric for a piece on 28 ct as you would 14 ct.
I haven't tried linen but I hear that's harder to work with. HTH, and happy stitching!

Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina. There are so many different fabrics and everyone seems to have their own favorites. If you can get some samples or smaller pieces to test your stitching on that is the best way to go. There is a website that will send you free samples, but I can't remember the name of it. Someone here will I am sure. All I remember is that it is in the UK and they will mail it anywhere. I really appreciated it.
