Newbie need help -Threading the needle

Hello all.

I am new to cross stitching. I have read a lot of stuff on here about the loop method for starting with a new piece of thread. I understand how to make the loop and fasten it. My question is how do you secure the "open ends" of the tread to the needle? Do you knot the thread to the needle? or do you just leave it open? If you leave it open don't you have to worry about the loose ends going back through the eye thus un-threading the needle?

Even if the loop method is not used and you secure the thread with stitches- I cannot seem to find anything that describes what to do with securing the tread to the needle?

I don't secure my thread to my needle- unless I am working with metallics or super fine blending filament.

The way I pull my needle through my fabric, my needle doesn't un-thread. I hold my needle at the end, so between my fingers is a bit of the eye and a bit of thread. If you use a proper tapestry needle.. generally a 24, 26 or 28.. you shouldn't have trouble.

Hello and welcome to the forum . I agree with Maggie. If you leave enough thread pulled through the needle you shouldn't have much trouble with it coming out of the needle. Make sure you are using the right size and the right needle as she suggests. I generally have more trouble getting the thread through the eye than it pulling out.

What projects are you working on? I hope you will post pictures and let us encourage you in your new hobby. It is a great one.

Like the others, when cross stitching you'll want to have the open ended side folded about halfway down the full length of the thread, and as the thread gets shorter, just make sure that end is not caught in the stitches (keep pulling it to halfway the length), and work until you can't really go up and down the fabric without unthreading the needle.

Thank you everyone. I'll try that. I completed a counted starter kit and now I am moving on to a dimension petite gold 5x7 kit. We'll see how that goes. I'd love to work my way up to HAED's.
