Taping edging

Post by Missy »

I found that when I am done and it is time to take the tape off that the tape still loosens the edging that I spent sometime protecting. So I cut strips of napkins ( cause they are thin) and put them on the reg size masking tape leaving like 1/4" or smaller edging of tape on both sides of the napkin. Then I apply it making sure the napkin fold on both sides of the edges. That way when you take off the tape the edges won't come off with the tape.

Never thought of doing that.

I just cut off the masking tape and size my fabric to allow for cutting it off.

Good tip!

I'm tempted to start taking my fabric to my sister so she can use her sewing machine to serge it. I used to do the tape thing, but it doesn't work well with the q snaps. So, now, I take a piece of thread and weave it around the edges. It's not perfect, but it works pretty well.

I love it when I get smaller pieces from 123 Stitch. They already have the edges serged.

Someone here suggested using soft surgical dressing tape which is like cotton gauze but does the job beautifully and you can leave it on.

For me, if the piece is going to be framed I just leave the tape on. If I were to do a napkin or something that would be used though I'd probably machine see the edges......well not me but my fiancé, I haven't a clue how to work a sewing machine lol.
