Skitzzzzz's Christmas Bell

Sktizzzzz's been popular around here, and with designs like these it's easy to see why. I decided I want to join in on the fun and picked the Christmas Bell to be my weekend project.

I plan on making a start on this on Saturday, but I really need some opinions. I had asked Skitzzzzzz about floss usage 'cus I found some variegated threads in my stash that I hoped to use. I only have 2 skeins of each (purple and yellow) and they're discontinued, so I can't buy anymore.

Since the bell will probably take over 2 skeins to complete with one color, I figured I could use the yellow on the ribbon and the purple on the bell. I picked some mocha Aida and took a picture to see what you all think. If this is no good I'd either wait and shop for something interesting or use regular floss in Christmas colors.

I think those will be very pretty. The purple for the bell for sure. The only thing I wasn't sure about and I am not good at picturing colors is whether or not the yellow will show up enough against the mocha fabric. If you need more skeins though, I just got a box of the variegateds and would be glad to send you a skein of each if you need them. The variegateds, I guess, have been discontinued in favor of the DMC variations (Is that what they call them now?). I'm not sure what else is different except the colors and numbers. I am hoping to use my variegateds up on some of skitzzzzz's designs also. I love that you are doing the Bell and look forward to seeing your progress on this one.

Hmmm, if I start with the yellow and it turns out too light against the fabric, what color would look good for the ribbon of the bell is purple? Green? An egg yolk yellow?

i think an egg yolk yellow would be very pretty and a nice contrast and should be bright enough. If you want to go for something less contrasting a shade of pale blue might look pretty too. Like I said, I'm not that great at mixing and matching colors which is why I don't tend to go off the chart colors very much.

I don't usually do it either, which is why lately I've been asking for so many opinions. I'm trying to go off chart but it's overwhelming.

love love love the purple!! I can't wait to see this started--I'll be starting on it myself soon--just need to figure out what fabric and threads to use. Maybe you could use a light grey for the bow? so hard to pick sometimes!!

I too think a light gray bow would look great. Or maybe a medium/dark pink.

I'm kinda digging the yellow ...

Anyway, I started a little test and am now thinking that 1x1 on 18 ct will give it a good coverage, which means I'll most likely have more than enough purple to do the entire bell in that color only if I want (the design does call for a single variegated color). So I'll start with the bell, and when I get to the bow we can see better pictures of what's gonna look best.

I so love having all of you to give opinions and help the difficult decision of choosing which stash to play with.

Karen, you and anyone else who are working on this or are starting on this soon, please feel free to share your WIPs here as well , 'cus if I'm by myself I might keep it in my Little Stitches topic instead.

LOVE that variegated purple!!! I'm thinking that a green would look nice for the ribbon - but the best idea would be to stitch the bell and as you say, you'll be able to get a better idea of what will look best for the ribbon.

I just received the chart from Skitzzzzz and I will be joining in with you. Just need to decide what fabric to use and the floss colors.
