Random number generator

Post by backafteradozenyrs »

I saw in Carolynbb's Cats! thread that she uses a RNG to assign her next square to work:

http://www.crossstitchforum.com/viewtop ... &start=220" target="_blank" target="_blank

Wow, what a ingenious idea! I don't think I'll try this technique yet (still getting my feet wet as it is) but is anyone else out there contemplating it?

I found this one online:

http://www.random.org/" target="_blank" target="_blank

For grins & giggles I put in 1 to 180 (the number of blocks in my next :wip: ) and it spit out a randomized listing for me. They can even help you pick your lotto numbers if you like!

Interesting, but surely only works if you grid. Since I don't grid, the thought of all that counting to get to the right square horrifies me! :D

I use dice...

I have everything from a three sided to a 100 sided dice...Needless to say the possibilities are endless, it just happens that I may have to throw several dice at once, so a 300 list will have a D3 and a D% to give me a 2 and a 85 so that would be block 85 on grid 2, I do have several of each dice so the bigger the grid, the more fun! Yes, I like my dice. I've got them in bone and wood and marble and all sorts of colours, I even have gold dice! *feels the need to generate random numbers now*

Angel, do you have any of the fuzzy dice for your rear-view (sorry, I just HAD to ask!)

hehe nope, But you wait, if and when we get a car, we will totally have dice in it. Mostly because we're both table top gamers and dice can mean the difference between life or death! Seriously, my fiancé still remembers that time his entire dragon killing party got anhilated by three orcs :P Low levelled ones at that because the dice god kept giving out bad rolls!

I can relate. Our gaming group about had a total party kill from a group of low level goblins because the dice gods were not being generous (except for the DM he kept rolling 20s  )

Never thought of rolling dice to decide where to stitch. Might have to try that one at some point just for fun. I got a nice set of dice made from tiger's eye for valentine's day that need more use. :D (does it make me a nerd that I got dice for valentine's day?)

Depends on your deffinition I guess. Nerd...not really, but deffinately a geek, by our deffinition anyway, but...bah geekdom is awesome! Speaking of awesome...have you ever seen the film "Gamers 2 dorkness rising" DON NOT WATCH THE FIRST ONE it sucks, but the second one is a stroke of genius and totally different and nothing to do with the origional. It's a group of gamers who have a very kick in the door approach and a DM who wants to kill them! Of course they die and come to the conclusion that they need another player...enter "the girl" who is given a character that wears "bikinimail" she objects naturally, one of the lads plays a girl, one plays a horny bard, there's a Paladin NPC and a Monk. Nodwick makes a guest appearance but...OMG Hilarious!
"I'm going to backstab the book!"
"It's an inaminate object, It has no discernable anatomy..."
"It has a spine doesn't it?!"
*eye roll as does the dice to reveal a...1 and the bard promptly stabs himself*

One of my fave movies because...it's SO TRUE!

I've not heard of that one, but it sounds pretty funny! Although, it does sound kinda like the group I play with. We literally spent one session kicking down every door in the goblin fort we came across just because we could. :D Which reminds me, I need to go buy snacks before game night tomorrow....

I'm not even remotely surprised, it's not a mainstream film...or a mainstream subject for that matter, but I highly recommend it. It's all on youtube though if you want to have a sneeky peek

I use random.org....but the dice idea is awesome!

I don't have much of a collection anymore since I haven't played D&D in far too long (I was just getting back into it when I had to go on bed rest for my pregnancy, boo!) but this might be a good excuse to start getting more dice.

Angel, do you do board games too?

Love board games, but don't have anywhere near enough. My favourite is our davinci code one, you know it's got a lot of rules when there's a two inch rule book and a dvd though....Still...easier to master than D&D and quicker to get through :P

My only problem with D&D is finding a group. We've had a party stood in a celler staring at a zombie for the better part of a year now :P It's so hard to find two more people availible to play regulary. :P I used to play online, but I lost the website we used to gather on :(
