Confetti - thread length

Post by JenEric »

Now that I am 85% done with a project that has large blocks of solid colors as well as many areas of daunting confetti, I had a  while completely relaxed stitching last night.

I have always cut my lengths of thread roughly the same - used whatever, then used the leftover bits for confetti - or started cutting each strand of the 'normal' length to fit each time I needed 1 or 2 stitches - very tedious and frustrating.

I was looking at an area that had about a dozen random 1,2, or 3 stitches that would not allow carrying the thread to the next group. I was getting ready to cut another 'normal' length of thread - when I realized, I could just cut it to 3 or 4 inches and immediately have 6 lenghts of thread perfect size for the confetti stitches. It worked out great and I continued my stitching and found that my stitching session was less frustrating.

I thought I would share in case this could help someone else. I'm sure others have already thought of this and/or have another method that works for them.

Good idea! I might try that when I get to some of the confetti areas on my HAED. I've always done the same as you before - cut my threads the same length and use odds and ends for confetti, so this could be good for confetti areas where I'm stitching with solid colours.

I have been doing that for some time now. I find I don't waste as much thread as when you are using a longer length over and over it becomes frayed and I have to toss it and start with a new piece.

I also do something similar, I typically will have two different lengths cut off my bobbins. I'll wind the the longer length back onto the bobbin and loop the shorter lengths through the hole on the bobbin. def saves the amount of floss i waste!
