Re: New Papillon SAL
Read about this on another BB and decided to resist temptation. But after seeing all your lovely colour choices I'm weakening so I guess I had better check and see what I have to do to order it.Of course the fact that I picked up some delicious Minnamurra threads while I was on my stitching retreat(they have been unavailable for about six years) has nothing whatsoever to do with my decision.

Re: New Papillon SAL
I was reading through this thread again in preparation for uploading a pic with my choices, and then realised I haven't chosen a metallic yet! But it's likely to be Petite Treasure Braid, either pearl white or a not-too-bright gold, so if you could imagine that in the picture below, that would be great
My fabric will be black Quaker cloth, and my threads are Chameleon Shades of Africa stranded silks; they are basically hand-dyed Soie d'Alger. I couldn't find three shades of green that were sufficiently different (these threads come in 4 or 5 very close shades of about 12 colours) so I chose 2 greens and a brown. The beads are a pearly white, and the sort of "colourful black" you get with oil on water.

Not sure if I will make an immediate start, but definitely looking forward to doing it, even though (like Maggie) I'm not generally into hearts unless it is for a purpose (like the anniversary sampler). But larning new stitches, or getting some more practice with the ones I already know, will be fun anyway

What lovely subtle colours, Mabel. They'll look stunning on the black cloth.
I must admit, I signed up for this yesterday, although I haven't even started ToS or TGE yet
. Still, I've got 2 years for this one!! I expect I'll end up so inspired by everyone else's lovely work that I'll want to join in sometime soon!!

I've got mine all ready to go and have now downloaded the cross stitch version aswell which I think I might have some pink fabric that would be large enough but I'm thinking of doing it in purples, what are peoples thoughts on purple and pink together?

Re: New Papillon SAL
Pinks & purples can go very well together, it rather depends on the individual colours

Re: New Papillon SAL
I've decided to stitck with what I had in my stash (even though the "I want something new" was screaming lol) The only piece of linen I had big enough is 32 count lambswool. The threads are all DMC along with a glaring gold metalic by Finca 6000. I'm hoping the gold will be more muted once its sewing in and that it will be good to work with. I'm not sure of the bead maker, I'm using gold and blue with a silver lining. So my purchases will be nominal as I need 3 more flosses of dark green and one more of each colour and a ball of No. 12 pearl cotton. This shouldn't be too hard on the pocket book.

I'm not sure when I will be able to start as we are moving next Friday and there is still a lot of packing to be done. The bright side is that I will have my own craft room - with a balcony looking into a wooded reserve! I'll post pictures once we are in. Good Luck everyone. Loving the colours you have all chosen.

I'm really tempted by this to learn some speciality stitches but I shall just sit here and watch then if I decide I really like the designs I might buy the pattern and just get the stash in when I can. Doesn't help I have my eye on a HAED

Re: New Papillon SAL
Question - This is my first project using so many beads and new stitches. Do you bead as you go or wait till the end? and if you bead as you go what sort of hoop do you use so the beads don't crush?
Re: New Papillon SAL
I am so excited about this and when I look at the beautiful stash that ya'll are using I can't wait for my fabric (it is an ecru, but I don't remember exactly which one I decided on) to get here. I still am thinking of at least one green being variegated and one or two of the floral colors also. I am pretty sure I will also go with pinks and purples. Or maybe even red and oranges. Does that sound reasonable? Not sure about the reds and oranges but I am thinking bright for some reason.

thanks Emma. I am leaving the beading for sure until the end because the odds are that I will decide it doesn't need any.

I've never done beading before so will leave it til the end and just focus on the stitching at the moment.

Re: New Papillon SAL
Oh botheration and other expressions of annoyance!!!!!!
I've just done what I should have done to begin with, print out the initial instructions. I'd just had a glance at them, saw "three greens, 8 florals, 2 beads" (completely missing out the metallic and white) and decided on those lovely Chameleon colours.
Now I had a good look at the instructions and it says you'll need at least 4 skeins of the dark green and two of each of the other colours -- I've only got one each of all those Chameleon silks, and as they are sold in sets of four or five they are too expensive and wasteful to buy more
So it's back to the drawing board for me *sigh*

Re: New Papillon SAL
Carole - reds and oranges sound fabulous. I'm picturing a garden with bright herbaceous borders.
Loving everyones colour choices. What a shame about your silks Mabel. It's worked out quite pricey just for the normal overdyes as some are in 5yd skeins and reading carefully it's calculated on 8m skeins. And trust me to use a 5yd for the 4x8m one
I'm going to leave the beading to the end as I'll be using my R&R frame and I don't think it's bead friendly
I've found a DMC that I think is just the right shade of sludgey olivey yellowy beige to go with what I've already picked. Sounds delightful, doesn't it but I reckon it'll look just the job.

DMC 729 or 680 perhaps? I happen to need that weird one for a project. Thought.. no way. But it turned out to be a perfect color (was the shaded part of the center of a flower)
I think reds and oranges would be a nice color combination- depending on the shade it could have an autumnal or a summery feel to it.

Oh dear, earlier I said it was a maybe but the adorable OH has told me to buy it since it's only 2€ and it provides me with something new to do every month so it looks like I'm joining in ladies!
Looking at fabric, I'm thinking 28ct Jobelan (I've not used evenweave before) but I'm stuck between colours...bone, light peach or buttermilk? I'm worried the buttermilk may be too strong of a colour for the background but I'm drawn to it

I love bone or dove grey as a fabric colour, I think the buttermilk may be a tuch too dark but that's just me.
I'm thinking of stitching each month separately and making them into a patchwork wall hanging

Re: New Papillon SAL
I did a search to see what buttermilk was and it may be very nice. The instructions say that we may be using white with the pearl cottons 8 and 12, if you go with the traditional way. White will show very well on the buttermilk fabric.
