i think if you make only yourself the pattern, don't sell the finished piece or pattern..it's ok..

but correct me if i'm wrong..ive been known to be wrong before..lol

Yes this is legal, with restrictions. You have to have bought the picture/poster from a legitimate source, or if on-line the picture must be on a free public site. Not a blog or other such copied forum. You can only stitch this for your use. Say for a son, daughter, special gift to friend and you can only do one pattern. I have done it myself. I had to buy a Bob the Builder coloring book for the picture I made for my brothers square. What is a 40 something with grown children going to do with a Bob the Builder coloring book.

Oh and can not be sold or used as a charity gift. Can not be advertised as your design. Can not be displayed in a public setting...ie store window, office reception area, and so on.
