Around the World SAL - 30th April

Post by Carole »

I've finished the first heart so I can't resist starting my thread for this. Apparently it's best done with mostly DMC and maybe two overdyes but I've done it pretty much the other way around. I really, really love the effect that you get from the variegated threads so my finished project may be a little more abstract than some of the others but I know I'll love it.

This was my final thread and fabric selection

Image

The fabric is Jobelan 28ct in Bone, which is a pinky brown. The threads are a mix of Threadworkx, Gentle Art, Crescent Colours and DMC.

This is the first heart. I had a moment of panic when I saw the chart/instructions as I think they assume a greater degree of competence than Abi's charts do. If I hadn't already got a fair bit of one of Abi's designs under my belt, I think I'd have given up before starting. I was ok once I worked out what I was doing. Mostly

Image

Berwick stitch. I found this to be slightly challenging, but more that it was fiddly than anything. It has a Partial Eyelet stitch above it.

Image

Norwich stitch. In one of the delicious Threadworkx colours. There is a version of Ray stitch in PTB round it which sparkles beautifully and there is backstitch around it. That should have been in one of the overdyes but I used a DMC substitute instead.

Image

Lazy Daisy stitch. It took me longest to get this one right and I had to redo the first one a couple of times before I realised what I was doing wrong. I love this in the pink Threadworkx. It had more variations on Ray stitch and Eyelet stitch around it.

Image

The beads will be going on once it's all finished as I really don't think my R&R frame will like them

Thanks for looking, and sorry this is so photo heavy.

:applesauce: Looks wonderful, and I'm bookmarking this for the fantastic closeups of your stitches. I also got a bit nervous looking at the directions, since it is just the pictures and not all those explanations like Abi gives about horizontal and verticals etc etc (which took forever for me to figure out). Keep your pictures coming :beg:. that is the best way to see what it should look like.

That is really lovely Carole. Your variegated thread works beautifully on the Norwich stitch.

Great job, Carole! Love your explanations of how to do each different kind of stitches. I chickened out and decided the SAL would overwhelmed me. Will enjoy watching your progress!

That is awesome and thank you so much for telling us about the stitches too. Love lazy daisy stitch, haven't done it for years but I often did it as a child rather than satin stitch which my grandmother wanted me to do for the petals.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Beautiful work and love your threads and fabric.

Love your colour choices Carole and your stitching is so neat :applesauce: :applesauce: Berwick stitch was a bit of a pain to get right wasn't it? I think my favourite stitch so far is the Norwich stitch - i love the layered effect.

Carole I love the colors you chose (I have a huge weakness for blue  ) and what beautiful stitches you've made!
And what amazing pictures you took, you must be a great photographer and/or have a really good camera!
It is great that you are doing that, your photos will come in handy as a reference for the other SALers.
