Sorry about confusing you with the pi-part, it's really hard to explain. The moin point is, that it was proofed, that one of the greatest mathe-problems from the antique, is not solvable ;-)

15)August Ferdinand Möbius
August Ferdinand Möbius was born on 17th November 1790 in Schulpforte, Germany and was a German mathematician.
I think many of you know the Möbius strip, you know, the loop with a twist in it.

(the pic is stolen from wikipedia.....)
It is a strip, but it has only one site! That's actually quite funny, when you usually think of a strip, of cause, there are two sites! It's hard to imagine but you can start walking from one spot of the Möbius strip and in time you will find yourself on "the other side" which means you will be "upside down" if you where upright when you started.
There is also a little joke about it: Why does a duck run across the Möbius strip? to get to the other site ;-)

28) John von Neumann
John von Neumann was born 28th December in Budapest, Hungary, and he was a Hungarian mathematician. He is something like the farther of computer science.
He did a lot of (abstract) work in mathematics, but he is usually connected to computer science.
He came to the subject by chance. He was on a train where he met another mathematician, who told him that they were working at something like a computer (of cause, it was not called like that, it was a calculating machine) and von Neumann began to talk to him about his work and mathematics. He made it something like a math-test to check out the abilities of that other mathematician and in the end he was so fascinated by the work that he began to work on something like that, too. So he began developing ideas for a calculating machine and with the help of his papers, real computer where built. It was not only his work, but he created some fundamental things.
His algorithms where and are for example used for random generators ;-)

Oh, no!!!!

I just realized that I have to disqualify myself from this competition. In a Mathematics Bingo, I can't believe that neither Juel, our Math whiz, nor I, a CPA, realized that I sent in a list of 15 numbers instead of 10. I guess I got it mixed up with the 15 needed for Bingo on another site.

I'm glad I caught it at 9/10. It could have been embarrassing had I called Bingo and it looked like I was cheating. So sorry!!!!

:( I'm sure we understand. It can get confusing with being on lots of different sites. I'm not on that many and it doesn't take much for me to sometimes not remember what I said where. I'm just sorry that you have to disqualify yourself this time. Make sure next time you don't hurt yourself by not sending in enough numbers.

Thanks, all. I actually won the Bingo on the other site in March, getting Glendon Place's Plum Pudding chart as my prize. Maybe that's why I was thinking 15 numbers. I've never won here, and thought I was so close earlier. One day I will win and be able to host one! Theresa
