Re: Mabel's Hardanger

Some rather sad stitching this weekend -- two friends of ours, both members of our church house group, lost their fathers on the same day, so I stitched two Sympathy cards.
I hope it will mean something to them that I stitched them specially, and somehow it makes me feel as if I'm doing something, not quite so helpless -- does that make sense?

That makes perfect sense, Mabel. Hand stitched cards are so much more personal than those bought 'off the shelf' and I'm sure you've done a beautiful job  . It's sometimes hard to know how to do the 'right thing' at times like these. My thoughts are with you and your friends

It makes perfect sense!! The personal touch always goes down well, especially at such a sad time.

Although I have no real religious beliefs, I stitched a stained glass church window card on black for a friend who's husband had just died and a while later she called me to say that she would keep my card and put it with his special things for his memorial service. I was really pleased that I'd made the effort for her.

What a sad time for your friends. I am sure they will appreciate the thought and care that you put in to stitching the cards.

That's a lovely thing to do Mabel. I definitely feel that way if I can "do" something, rather that just feeling like there's nothing that I can say that will help at all. I'm so sorry for your friends.

I'm sure your friends will appreciate the very personal cards. It is so hard at a time like this. Friends are so important and personal touches are so gratefully received.

Thank you all  We've got one of the friends to dinner tonight with his sister who is here from New Zealand for the funeral tomorrow.

Over the past few days I've been doing some different stitching, turning 8 or so of my stitched models into patches for shopping bags; until you try and do that sort of thing in "bulk" rather than just a single one for yourself you don't really realise how much time that takes! Some of them I had fortunately hemmed earlier, but there were still a fair number to hem with either four-sided edging or blanket stitch; then I attached them all to cotton shopping bags with double running stitch.
I'll be putting them on my site on a sort of specials page, but I'm keeping one of them for myself, my Stitching Bug:

I get them from Blank Plastic. They are the same as the Framecraft ones, but they go for about £2 each plus postage, which is a bit much  . You have to buy the BP ones per 10, but when you buy 20 they work out at about 75p each, and if you can manage 50 they come down to less than 60p.

:applesauce: The bags look great and the coasters do also. What a great idea. I'm sure there are people who want bags and coasters and bookmarks but don't want to do the actual stitching. And these are beautiful.

Beautiful bag, I bet if you posted that pic you'd get commissions for that one. :) Good for you to keep it for you. You deserve a little something.

Remember I said once (or twice) that even if you did cut wrong it could usually be rescued? Well, it had better be true -- I managed to snip through some of the silk perle as I was cutting Fruit :-(

I was at my stitching group at the time and haven't had a good look at it yet but I may have to take the unprecedented step of trying to restitch a Kloster block after cutting....
