HAED Santa Napping - update 12-16 (pg 3)

Post by pattiebelle »

Hi, all,

Spent the last 10hrs of my rotation on a new start:

http://heavenandearthdesigns.com/index. ... ts_id=3414" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

Since there isn't much to see (just 1 inch x 1/2 inch in the upper left corner), I thought I'd post the pic of it in the stitchy stand ... cool isn't it?

I'm definately gonna rethink this 10hr rotation, though. It's just not enough time to make any progress!!! Now I want to work a section or 10 hrs, whichever is longer. I really need to see results.

So far, I've calculated that in 10hrs, I stitched 300 little x's on that HAED. Page 1 has about 8000 stitches in it. That'll take about 4 years. (and the whole thing has 35 pages???) There's got to be a better way ...

Anyway, thanks for looking :)

Thank you Megan. :)

It's from Hearthside Craftworks in Canada.

DH got it for me for my b'day (last week). It's rather pricey, but I like the wood and the wheels and the wide base, and I especially like the attachments for qsnaps

It's more like a piece of furniture that helps w/ stitching ...

:applesauce: What a wonderful stand. And a great start. I have yet to stick to 10 hrs on my 10 hour rotation. I have done as little as 12 hrs and as many as 19. I think I actually use the idea of a 10 hour rotation to give me permission to move to the next project without feeling guilty for not staying with one to the finish. It gives me a little bit of structure to my stitching which was almost chaotic without it. Since you made the "rules" you can change them whenever you want.

I love this chart and had it in my wish list for a while, then took it out because I was pretty sure I wouldn't ever get to it. Might have to do some rethinking. I am so looking forward to watching you stitch it.

Lovely stand, it's wonderful when you find something that works for you! With the rotation - as Carole says, you make the rules so you can break them! The 10hr rotation wouldn't work for me, I base mine around stitching on a piece for a week (or 5 days if I fancy a change at the weekend) - but then I probably have more stitchy time so it works for me. Try not to worry about it all too much though - just enjoy your stitching, every stitch is one step closer.......!

Gorgeous stand. I'm another one who can't stick to a 10 hour rotation. I tried it for a while, but I found it too rigid. Now I'm trying out stitching a particular project for a week. Each Sunday I decide if I want to switch to another project or carry on with the current one for another week. It's working well so far.

Looking forward to this one coming to life, it is a beautiful chart, and you will love stitching on your stand, I know I have had mine for nearly three years and wouldn't swap it for anything.

What a great picture to do! I think with rotations you just find one that works for you! Mine isn't so much a rotation as random stitching!

Great design I too wouldn't be able to stick to only 10hrs at a time. I like to rotate after every page, then I feel like I have made some real progress. I can't wait to see your updates :D

I have the Mark 2 also, and it is lovely. :D

As for rotations, I work in pages. My stitching time is sporadic and I don't really keep track of time, so it works for me.

This should be a beautiful project. Can't wait to see more!

re: rotation, I just work until I want to do something else. I was trying to do some more formal work times, but now I feel I want to get something finished so I am sticking to it. I think I want it finished this fall or winter to use as a gift If I have it done by Dec., there will be, I hope , 2 reasons to give the planned recipient a gift.

Love the design you've chosen! Can't wait to see this come to life.

It takes me a day or two to get back into stitching a design, so I do a weekly rotation. However, a week still doesn't seem long enough to me to make much progress when stitching a HAED.

Love your stitching area! I hope it makes stitching even more fun.

Congrats on your start.....every stitch is a little closer to the finish :applesauce:

I remember I found the sheer size of my first HAED so overwhelming at first, I was fretting about how long it would take, and how much I needed to do each week....then you know what.....I had an epiphany....it really doesn't matter how long it takes, I'm going to enjoy the journey.....I then relaxed more and subsequently I enjoy stitching them more

As for rotations I'm a week at a time gal too....HAEDs are just so big that 10 hrs on one just wouldn't be enough progress for me, having said that a week on a HAED sometimes doesn't look like much progress either, it really depends on the confetti level of the area you're stitching. Whatever my progress I am usually ready for a change after a week....I get bored waaaay too easily!

Thank you all for your comments. I read them all carefully. I think I'm gonna re-start my Santa and do the tent-stitch thingy. I also want to use another color fabric to reduce the chance of show-thru. I'm thinking pewter? Any other suggestions?

You've all been wonderful :applesauce: :)

I definitely second using tent stitch...but give it a go first....some people just don't like using it! As for fabby how about a tan colour? There is a fair bit of brown in the background and a tan would help hide any show through in those areas very well.
