Going to stitch this for my friend who is due in October. Wasn't wanting to stitch it on white, we talked about a light pink sparkly fabric. The finished size is 7 1/2" by 9" on 14 ct aida.
This is what it will look like when it's done. Any help/ suggestions will be helpful.
An Angel in the book of life wrote down my baby's birth. And whispered as she closed the book "too beautiful for earth."

I actually like the idea of white as this background
Otherwise, the various quilt patterns won't be as distinct
I think this needs the contrast between the white fabric and pink/ red threads
Although.. an opal/ rainbow sparkly white might be fun too
I agree with Maggie too (but it's your project!) - me being me would also swap the aida for 28ct evenweave and stitch over 2. I think an opal fabric would look lovely!

I'd steer away from pink fabrics too, I think it will take away from the beautiful patterns. But a bit of sparkle would look fantastic.
If you don't want to use white, a cream or ivory might work, but when I saw it, my immediate reaction was it might look nice on a very very pale blue or green. A yellow might work too - any pastel colour that makes the pinks and reds stand out
Looks like a lovely piece to do for your friend

I agree that a white fabric would look best with this, but maybe one with sparkle? It is a lovely design and will be fun to stitch.

Personally I would use either an irridescent cream or a baby blue. When my best friend was pregnant she was assured that it was a boy, however at 7 months she started panicking that everything was boyish and what if they're wrong? It happens? What if she had a girl! You would not believe how heavily this weighed on her so she got a load of things that could be either or. Blue and pink look beautiful together and, on the off chance that it's a boy instead, it works well for both genders
I'd steer clear of anything patterned, so as not to distract from the quilting patterns in the designs, as others have said, but a sparkly fabric might add just that certain something. If you do want a coloured fabric, how about a pale yellow?
There's even an iridescent pale yellow aida here (scroll down)
