I thought it looked like it did, but when changing threads every other stitch, I'm sorry to say that bored isn't what best describes my experience, frustrating yes, insane maybe, crazy for doing it, sometimes. But again, I'm you.
I can understand you frustration over the vast background that has lots of color shades in it...But I must say that you're doing great despite the frustration! It's really lovely...I'm not into penguins but since I saw your project I think I might look for a nice pattern of them.

Ur doing great Nic, keep going once u are done u will reap the benifits of what u have gone though, i can understand how u must be feelin about this background though. ((hugs)) U CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!
Nic, this is stunning! How in the world do you go between two such complex pieces? My brain couldn't shift gears that fast. These penguins are so beautiful. How do you decide which one gets finished first?
Such glorious colours -- it is absolutely stunning! I'd think twice (or probably three times before abandoning it altogether) about such a complex background; I'm afraid I'm simply too lazy and would probably try to find a suitable hand-dyed fabric so I would only need to do the penguins but this does look so effective and I love the effect of the fully stitched background.
So in short, I love fully stitched backgrounds and applaud them in others but lack the determination and stamina to do them myself *hangs head in shame after casting another longing and appreciative look at the penguins and various people's HAEDs, HOEDs and baseball projects*
