I don't think that there is any "true" number when it comes to how many strands to use on certain counts of fabric as we all have different preferences when it comes to coverage! Like you, I've seen stitchers use 3 and 4 strands, but the only way to know what is best for you is to do some test stitching :D .

I agree with MBK.. I would try 3 or 4.
I have a hard time with 4 though.
Too many twists and knots.
It just doesn't lay nice in my needle.
I might even go with a pearle cotton.
Size 5 might work (the twisted skeins) or size 8 (balls).

I can send you some of each if you want to play around

I agree that you need to judge for yourself. I also agree tha using 4 threads is a bit of a pain and that the thread can look a bit messy because of the way it will twist when stitching.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror

I am using three and realizing that while it is easier to see....11 count is much harder to stitch. Due to the twisting and knotting...will post pics on my normal thread as I go...I now have 3 projects going...I used to be a one at a time stitcher.
