Question about Crescent Colours Threads

Post by rcperryls »

I don't think I have used these threads before, but there are two skeins for my current L*K* Cat Lessons for People. The other threads are WDW. The CC threads are not colorfast? I didn't realize that and so far have only done a few stitches of the teal (it is the cat's collar) but a lot of the letters are in CC Caterpillar. Do I need to wash these threads before I use them? Do I need to :anotherfrog: the Really Teally and restitch it?
I don't know why I would have to wash the piece, but if I do frame it, it would probably need to be washed and pressed first. I've put the piece up now and won't work on it for a while (probably), so have plenty of time to deal with the threads if I have to.

Take a look.. chances are your WDW aren't colorfast either.

Good way to know if they will run.. wash what you haven't used of the skein.
Cold water, lay to dry on a paper towel. You'll know if they bleed or not.

Thank, you Maggie. The WDW says it is colorfast, but I will check anyway. I guess if it isn't, I'll have to not wash the piece or start over. I think not washing will win!
But I will be prepared for next time.

You could just soak the piece in white vinegar & then rinse well. (Vinegar is how my Grandma used to set the dyes in her needlework).

Diana, Do you mean after all the stitching is done?

I might just do it now (for what you've stitched) & also soak the threads before you use them to stitch with (which is what I remember her advising me to do when I first started to stitch....she didn't trust "colorfast" labels & said the vinegar wouldn't hurt the thread & you'll rinse it all out & let it air dry anyway).

Sounds like a doable idea. Now I have to get some vinegar since I used the last bit to clean the coffee maker.
