Dragon w/teddy bear 9.7 FRAMED

Post by backafteradozenyrs »

Found the chart for this on Kreiniks (freebies) website:

Image

My daughters boyfriends' 18th B-day is next month, so I will be kitting it up tomorrow & concentrating on it.

His favorite color is blue, so dd asked me to make the dragon blue. Ok. The chart calls for Kreiniks (it IS on their website) but I'm replacing those with DMC's in blues. The border will be chartreuse & I'm hoping to find a green fabric (hand dyed available at Michaels, Joanns or AC Moore?)

I'm really looking forward to seeing you stitch this up! And the changes sound like they'll be lovely.

I don't have an AC Moore around me, but neither Michael's nor JoAnn's carries hand dyed cross stitch fabrics... but they might have a linen that will work in the fabric section? There is a bright green Charles Craft aida in 14ct, that you can get easily at one of those stores. Or you could try your hand at hand dying your own cloth! One of the girls on here wrote up a blog entry about how she did it.

:D That is going to look wonderful. I think blue is a better color for the dragon too. I have never seen any colored fabrics at Michae's or AC Moore around here. Don't have a Joanne's yet. I would call before I made a trip to the store to see if they do have the fabric you need. I hope it doesn't take too long for you to find some that you like. I am looking forward to seeing this one stitched.

Such a cute little dragon.

Around here, JoAnn's has a larger selection of fabric than Michael's, but neither has any hand dyeds. I've never been to AC Moore's so I can't say what they might have.

My mom just had her 2nd hip replaced & is in re-hab. now....so I'm combining a trip to visit with her and going to ALL the (craft) stores in town.

I don't really like the dragon/fairy cross stitches, but this one really is cute (& yea, I also saved the "children are our greatest gift" dragon one from that same website). I'm glad someone else thougt to put a link in that other thread (I can be a REAL air-head; especially at 1am!)

No hand dyed at the big stores (just like y'all said) & our LNS isn't open on Mondays....so, I found these greens:

& here's the one I'm going to use w/some of the floss' (the others I have in my stash & have to dig 'em out)

Small change, I can't see the weave because of the dark splotchy print (which was what I *liked* about that fabric! :( ) So, I'll be using the plain green.

Ok, so my stitchy-bug has been acting up (I DROPPED a gold-plated #14 needle this morning & can't find it...that booger is B-I-G, my carpet is brown & the couch is blue....STILL couldn't find the pesky thing!)

I've been going cross-country & will go back to complete the X after I'm done with the trip (see what I did there?), in any case, here's where I am now:

Image

edited to add: I went with a DMC gold colored floss instead of metallic because I'm not using any other blending/metallic floss & I think it looks better (the other might look out of place).

:applesauce: Looking very good and I really like the colors together. The needle is probably in whatever place needles decide to go and hide. The only good thing about not finding one is that it forces me to vacuum the rug so that it doesn't end up in any kitty paws. All in all its a royal pain in the a**. That said, I am looking forward to seeing this one stitched. It is sooooo cute.
